Day 11 - sailing south by south west, towards New Providence.
Weather - warm humid breezes
Breakfast will be served today by people wearing shoes and clothing secured using buttons and zippers.
The battle for Beth continues to rage leaving poor Beth in the clutches of her evil father and the equally evil Leo Friend.
We are joining the newly named " Cap'n" Jack as he was launched off of the Carmichael and fished out of the water by HIS crew and onto the Jenny. (pg 235)
And then we meet up with Backbeard and Bonnett.
We've touched on this before, but let's talk about the demise Blackbeard and Bonnett and both of their plans. In the end, did their plans play out the way you thought they would? Did anything surprise you?
We are wrapping up their story lines today so feel free to discuss the points pertaining to them.

Here are some thoughts that I had...I was not surprised that Blackbeard had planned to have himself killed....for lack of another way of saying it. But I was surprised that he came back for Beth. I thought it was brilliant writing that had the head of Blackbeard dripping into the sea...we KNEW we hadn't seen the end of him...at least not in that form.

I wasn't surprised at BBeard's return either Karen but how strange to find out that you needed the right woman or the magic would be one sided. Did that mean less powerful? Very clever to use the actual fact of BBeard's head hanging from the mast and incorporate the blood into sea storyline.
As for Bonnett, I was surprised that after taking the pardon then continuing his piracy only to be caught and escape to avoid the noose, actually wanted to be hanged later on.

I think that what happened at the Fountain of Youth haunted Bonnet for the rest of his life and he finally wanted to get away from it by being hung. Joanie

PRose again I think you're correct--I need to go back & reread that last part of the book again. As far as needing a woman to complete the magic, isn't that what occurred for Jack/Beth for Jack's magic to work? Great connection--off to read that bit again.
Yes, poor Bonnett---once you turn pirate, it was very difficult to go back. I think he felt ashamed that he allowed himself to be controlled.
