My fave was Sala. The way HST writes is so amusing to me. Sala has a curmudgeonly worldview; he's a bit gloomy, but he also takes a lot of pride in his profession as a photojournalist. The things he says make me laugh. Always the harbinger of doom.

But it's so over the top that you can't take him seriously.
There were no characters I couldn't stand, but HST gives his slant on characters he dislikes, so you dislike them, too. For instance, pg. 49:
" For my money, Zimburger should not only have been penned up like a dog, but shot like a mad one."

Who couldn't agree with that?
All the self-important, greedy Americans who came to PR to rape it's pristine landscape with hotels. I could go on, but I'll stop. There's a social commentary in all of HST's writing - and I tend to share his opinions.
Also, Chenault, though I didn't necessarily like her (and I doubt if she really liked herself much) , as I've said before, I understand her completely.
