If you ever watched the old TV show "Wild Wild West" or saw the recent movie. it's a great example of "steampunk" writing, as are most things written by H.G. Would have completely gone over my head like a gust of wind if you hadn't given us this tip. OK then, this reminds me of a few things: 1) The Jetsons 2) The movie with a Balloon that goes to 100 lands or something... 3) The Subculture / Fashion section from Wiki drove me straight into Tim Burton and the Mad Hatter ! Based on this, I can comment on my thoughts for Johnny's role in the story with more confidence.
