According to this site, it looks like Indy film guru Ben Barenholtz is developing Kurt Busiek's comic book Astro City with Johnny's Infinitum Nihil and Frank Marshall is set to direct.

BARENHOLTZ, BEN One of the key protagonists in America’s independent film scene. In 1968 he opened the
New York Elgin Cinema, which became a legendary forum for independent filmmakers with its Midnight Movies.
Barenholtz is also a successful producer and distributor. He was the executive producer of several of the Coen
brothers’ films, including the drama BARTON FINK that won the Golden Palm in Cannes in 1991, MILLER´S
CROSSING, and Darren Aronofsky´s REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. Barenholtz is producing the futuristic saga THE
NIGHT FISHERMAN, by writer-director Joseph Cahill. He is developing Kurt Busiek's acclaimed comic book Astro
City with Johnny Depp's company Infinitum Nihil. Frank Marshall is set to direct.
He is also producing Stags, a
comedy by first time writer-director Jamie Greenberg, to be shot in New York at the end of the summer.

Interesting. Good find, Karen! IN seems to be going in big time for comic book/graphic novel adaptations. I really hope they hit one out of the park. I've never heard of Astro City (that's not surprising! laugh.gif ) but it sounds like it's filled with all sorts of super heros just calling for tons of special effects. Of course, since it's IN, it has a different and more human twist. Here's the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_City

I wonder if this is the special area that Sarkar heads.

Thanks Fan! I thought this one was interesting! Guys and their comic books!

That's a good question about Sam Sarkar. I've been over at Amazon looking at the different issues. Astro City on Amazon

So do I. Modern movie technology can do the comic genre justice. They come right out of the page onto the big screen nearly intact.
The stories are so fantastic. Pure escapism.
It's pretty exciting.
