I'm on page 641. So far I've only figured out that she is the worst most evil villian, using her beauty as a tool to control people. Could she do that without a wicked intellect? She is probably smarter than all the men. I haven't yet sorted out exactly what her plan is. I'm getting impatient to finish the book. I will be done by Monday. The book is due back.
Perhaps she is planning to build a blue glass woman army to rule the world. hehe

I find the Contessa to be perhaps the most chilling and frightening character of all.
For some reason, I evisualise her as being played by Angelica Huston!
As I haven't finished the book yet, I can't really comment on her purpose, but Dahlquist has drawn her with sinister clarity. Her scenes are horrible yet fascinating.
It is often said that women can be crueller than men, particularly in their treatment of other women - I think the Contessa illustrates this well.

THis may sound strange, but it's refreshing to have a woman that plays such a conniving, chilling character in a story. For me, she wasn't a "friend" to anyone---male or female. She definitley had a HUGE ego and was on a power trip. It's almost unimaginable that a "real" person like this could have existed. I agree, she's EVIL! She's another character I would like more background info. about in future sequels.
Could she be a villian that you love to hate?? I think the suggestion of Angelica Huston playing this role would be perfect.

I don't see Angelica Huston. Too old and not deadly gorgeous.
So I've finished the book. The Contessa is the most uncomplicated character, it turns out. She only wanted people she could control, and have control of countries -- very Dr. Miguelito Loveless (from The Wild Wild West tv show) She was simply a megalomaniac! I really did think it would be something more complex. But she was very chillingly sinsister. And I hated her, so mission accomplished.
