As we wind down our discussion, is there any you'd like to discuss? Anything we missed that you want to comment on?

I learned alot from reading Life After Death. Damien made me realize that I need to be more tolerant.

Don't assume: Things aren't always as they seem. Don't just read between the lines, and always remember: there are two sides to every story.

He taught me that, even in the darkest times, love can prevail and make you stronger than you thought possible.

Karen, thank you for discussing Life After Death. I enjoyed reading people's comments and always enjoy hearing different points of view. Thanks for allowing me to share in this.

Ellen, we are happy to have you join in and help moderate our discussion of Damien's story. We sure had a ton of "lurkers" this time!! Damien taught us so many things, on so many different levels and subjects. I'm happy you chose to join us on this discussion!! It's been a long time, and we're happy to have your input!

You guys might find this odd, but I think a little of Public Enemies here after reading Ellen's post. Don't assume that someone is guilty or that they are "evil" and practice "bad"things. John Dillinger was made out to be far worse than he was. Damien's story is one of many. There are so many that are indeed not guilty and serving time. I hope that DNA is allowed more in the future so that other's that are innocent can find freedom.

During the parts of Damien's writing in prison, I found myself putting myself in his shoes---such as having all that solitary time, trapped in a small space & what I would do to keep my sanity. Writing/reading seemed to have helped him through this experience. I loved reading & rereading some parts of what he wrote--just such beautiful language. Sadly Damien's case isn't an isolated incident, but thanks to advances in DNA technology, some of these injustices are being corrected.
