KevinSmithVerified account @ThatKevinSmith Ran out of TUSK footage to edit. Flick's currently 1 hour, 20 mins but we still have 5 Guy Lapointe scenes to shoot here in L.A. next month.
4:42 PM - 2 Dec 2013
But in early September 2013 he tweeted this
"HE'S IN!!! HE'S IN!!!!!! #WalrusYes (More info when I can share it. Just needed to mark the highlight of my career for future reference...)"
He subsequently blogged this
"We’ve still got two more shooting days here in Los Angeles to wrap the flick with our fifth Beatle – the performer playing the role of investigator Guy Lapointe. It’s looking like late December/early January for that – which would mean I’d be racing to my self-imposed Sundance finish line. And while I had to rush to make it all happen so as not to risk losing momentum, rushing now might foster a cavity around my creativity. The hard part’s over: we got the flick in the can (which sounds vaguely dirty). Now that I’m seeing what we’ve created in madcap haste, I’m slowing down the pace: because, shockingly, this flick turned out WAY the snuggle better than I’d dreamed it could be."
A couple of weeks ago he tweeted this

Now Johnny and/or Joel is not listed on the films IMDB page, BUT given Johnny's involvement in " Lucky Them" and " London Fields" were kept on the downl low this would not surprise me at all if he was involved with " Tusk"
Johnny and Kevin have some sort of relationship both of their daughters went to the same school and this also turned up.
Johnny Depp - Don't laugh, this one is actually more plausible than you might think. There is a personal relationship between Depp and Smith that dates back to when their daughters went to school together and they co-hosted poetry events for charity. The age is right and Johnny Depp has the range to pull off just about any sort of character. And there's that Burton connection again, maybe it's Tim Burton as Guy Lapointe.
Here's adding more cred to this one! I remember KSmith talking about attending school events for their kids awhile ago and I believe Johnny flew one of Kevin's kids to Europe as a play date, so......this is looking to be true!
Johnny Depp Joins Kevin Smith's ‘Tusk,’ Says Star Justin Long MOVIES | By Jeff Sneider on April 11, 2014 @ 1:25 pm Follow @theinsneider
Johnny Depp Joins Kevin Smith's 'Tusk,' Says Star Justin Long He's likely playing a French-Canadian inspector who investigates the bizarre case at the center of the film
Justin Long has revealed that Johnny Depp has joined the cast of Kevin Smith's modern-day monster movie “Tusk,” which will be released later this year by A24.
Representatives for A24, Demarest Films and Depp did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
“Tusk” stars Justin Long as a journalist who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses. Smith wrote the film, which co-stars Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment.
The film, which was born out of one of Kevin Smith's immensely popular SModcasts, was produced by Shannon McIntosh and Demarest's Sam Englebardt and David Greathouse.
In a recent interview with Long Island Newsday, Long said he's currently working on “Tusk” and that “Johnny Depp is in that one.”
Depp is likely playing a French-Canadian inspector named Guy Lapointe, who investigates the bizarre case of a man trapped in a walrus costume.
Smith previously indicated that he planned to cast a major movie star in the small but crucial role, which required only two days of shooting. He was ecstatic on Twitter on Sept. 4 upon getting word that he had secured his man, whose identity remained a mystery at the time.
In March, a representative for A24 told TheWrap that Smith had “cast a friend” as Lapointe. Well, Depp would qualify as a friend, as the duo have hosted charity events together and their daughters went to the same school at one point. Additionally, Depp's longtime makeup artist Joel Harlow worked on “Tusk,” while Demarest Films has produced three movies starring Depp's fiancee, Amber Heard.
Depp next stars in “Transcendence” and will soon be seen in Demarest's “London Fields,” Disney's “Into the Woods” and Lionsgate's “Mortdecai.” Depp is currently prepping to play Whitey Bulger in WB's ‘Black Mass” before he starts filming the “Alice in Wonderland” sequel. He's repped by UTA and attorney Jacob A. Bloom.

Well maybe I spoke too soon! Here's another article denying that Johnny is in the film, but it also states that maybe they're covering it up?? Guess it's still a Time Will Tell....
JUSTIN LONG SAYS HE WAS JOKING ABOUT JOHNNY DEPP APPEARING IN KEVIN SMITH’S TUSK Justin Long Says He Was Joking About Johnny Depp Appearing In Kevin Smith’s Tusk
By: Joe Comicbook on April 12, 2014
On Friday, a rumor exploded on the Internet that Johnny Depp was appearing in Kevin Smith’s Tusk. Ain’t It Cool News compiled some pretty compelling evidence supporting the possibility that Johnny Depp had been cast in Tusk. One of the key points of evidence was that Tusk star Justin Long had seemingly confirmed Johnny Depp’s appearance. In an interview with Long Island Newsday, Long said, “Yeah, the one where a man turns into a war horse. It’s called Tusk. Johnny Depp is in that one. I’m working on something coming up later.”
Of course, Tusk involves a man being turned into a walrus, so the war horse was likely a transcription error. After numerous news agencies started reporting that Johnny Depp was in Tusk based on the comment, Justin Long clarified his comment on Twitter. “I was joking around w kids back in December. The actor playing LaPointe didn’t work til March #WalrusYes #DeppNo,” wrote Long. Even though the interview that Long was quoted in was published in March, there is a note in the article indicating the interview was conducted in December. Of course, many are suspecting that Long might just be trying to cover up now for leaking a major piece of casting news. Did Long let a secret slip out? Or was he just making a joke?
Kevin Smith’s Tusk To Hit Theatres In September July 18, 2014Jordan Adler0 Kevin Smith Kevin Smiths Tusk To Hit Theatres In September
Longtime film aficionado (and sometimes filmmaker) Kevin Smith revealed on Twitter Thursday that A24 will release his horror thriller Tusk on Sept. 19, 2014. He also announced on the social media site that the trailer for his latest will premiere at his Comic-Con panel on July 25, one endearingly titled “The Musk of Tusk: An Evening with Kevin Smith.” Two of the film’s stars, Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment, will be present in Hall H next Friday, as well.
The thriller originated from an idea on the writer/director’s SModcast podcasts. Smith and producing pal Scott Mosier talked about a situation where a homeowner could live in a place free of charge if he or she agreed to dress as a walrus. Smith asked his Twitter followers to tweet “#WalrusYes” if this had potential to become a feature film. Alas, based on the movie’s title and teaser poster (below), it seems that the walrus is indeed a special part of Smith’s latest.
Tusk stars Justin Long as podcaster Wallace Bryton, who heads into the backwoods of Manitoba to interview a mysterious adventurer, Howard Howe (Michael Parks), and then goes missing. Bryton’s pals, played by Rodriguez and Osment, then begin a search for Bryton, who may or may not be donning a walrus costume. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp appears in a small role, as a French-Canadian cop in pursuit of the monster-maker. While Depp seems like an inspired if bizarre choice to speak with a Québécois accent, the part was originally offered to Quentin Tarantino, who passed on the role.
Smith’s creepy and quirky story has already received much buzz from the director’s fans. Although Tusk was originally planned to debut at Sundance earlier this year, audiences should be relieved that they do not have to wait much longer for the final cut.
Stay tuned for a trailer from Hall H and just try getting that Fleetwood Mac song out of your head as you wait for the first footage.
