MIRAMAX: Mira says Shantaram is an enormous project and she will be shooting in Mumbai.
New Delhi: After actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, now Johnny Depp will soon be coming to India and it’s filmmaker Mira Nair who is bringing him here.
“They fell for me baby, what can I say?” That’s Mira's candid reply on how she bagged the Warner Brothers big budget film Shantaram.
Based on Gregory David Roberts acclaimed novel by the same name, the adaptation of the book starring Johnny Depp was to be directed by Peter Weir earlier. However, like the novel the adventure will be crisscrossing across continents.
“Of course it’s going to be Mumbai and a combination of London and China. It’s just enormous but we will definitely be shooting in Mumbai,” explains Mira.
And like in her latest work Namesake, Shantaram, too, will have some Indian faces.
“I am going to come here soon and we are going to start the casting. It’s a vast cast and it’s an amazing banquet. In terms of actors I am going to work with some leading actors as well as some unknown ones as I always do,” Mira says.
Mira also confirms that Munnabhai MBBS's English remake Gangster MD is very much in the pipeline to be produced by 20th Century Fox and her own banner Mirabai Films. But now with an original Shantaram in her scheme of things she won’t be directing the remake.
