Bonnie, on the Zone, found the photo in a bigger size. I originally saw it on the Ramey photo agency site. It appears to be after an all-night filming session at the Biograph. The 'wound' on his face matches what was seen in photos from then. He seems to be in the wardrobe trailer wearing padded shorts, knee pads, long socks with long johns underneath all to protect him from the cool night air and the repeated falls he had to take for the multiple takes of that scene. Behind him on the floor might be the harness he wore for that shoot (remember the wire attached to his back in those Biograph shots?). The photo is interesting as it highlights so well the unglamorous side of filming.

First--thanks Maggy for posting the pic. It seems like he had just thrown off the harness bit and was probably physically/mentally exhausted so grabbed the wine. I think someone caught him in an unposed moment---but then again.....since it's not the greatest quality, it doesn't seem like it would be a pro photog takjing the pic. I wonder who the still photog for the film is......

Remember that BrianB in his blog reported speaking briefly with Johnny after the Biograph scene and that he stopped Johnny while he was on his way to his trailer---bet Johnny needed some decompressing after that scene.

The more I look at this pic, and maybe because it's been a looong day---but doesn't he look like he has ballet tights on?(I know it was all for the scene, but if I didn't know that....) Remember when he said he'd do ballet for Tim Burton?? Just made me chuckle a little :D

Just my thoughts, but it looks like a picture from scene in movie, sometime after Dillinger had plastic surgery. If I am wrong Depp needs my nursing skills. Hoping it is just an in pain Dillinger. Thanks for the picture, I have not seen it before.

It looks to have the facial gunshot wound and the background is not 1934. ;)

It looks like the harness on the floor in the background of the pic(there were photos from another day with him wearing the white harness. You can still see parts of it in the knee area. Also, his thighs/knees are padded which would be from costuming as well. Pretty sure it's him in either his trailer or wardrobe area.....

There are words taped up on the left hand side. Script lines to practice perhaps?

THe room behind him looks modern, look at the carpet for instance. And the light fixtures and the ceiling vents. That looks like a tech room of some sort.

I've seen the pic enlarged and one of the papers also appears to be some photos of Dillinger's face, probably after he had been killed, to help with the facial wound/bruises.....

Wow. I had heard of the photo but they were reluctant to post it as it appeared to be possibly pap/long lens photo.

He does look totally knackered (yes, I said it too).

What does the writing say on the side of the photo? I couldn't make it out.

I think it's safe to say he's exhausted---it was a night shoot and from what we've read, numerous takes as well as rehearsals. Plus, it's a very intense scene and after the grinding schedule PE has had, anyone would be exhausted. I think the photo caught him right when he took off his vest/harness and was just starting to unwind. I think it shows everyone that acting is grueling and takes quite a bit of stamina. I'm hoping someone's putting together a book about the filming like we had with Sweeney Todd :crossfingers

If I were writing a companion book, I'd definitely want this picture in it. It speaks without saying a word.

A book about the filming of PE is a great idea. I really enjoyed both the Pirates and Sweeney Todd companion books. And I hope Johnny can get some SLEEP. He looks totally wiped out. I'll almost be glad when they are finished filming this one. I hope he can get some time to relax after these tough scenes. I never realized how much hard work goes into making movies like this. I'll watch this film with much more respect after following the filming like we have been able to do. Thanks Johnny and everybody for your hard work. It's gonna be great!
