Title: Columbus, WI is flooding!
raetherese - June 8, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
Hey everyone,
I just left Columbus from a dinner with pbhgirl and Elizabeth to celebrate pbhgirls birthday. We got back to Elizabeth's house and the creek had overflown (hope that is the right verbage). The street where basecamp was set up during PE i and the surrounding block are flooded very bad and the rain is continuing to come down. I am going to call Michelle and see how things are going but it looks as if many of the homeowners in Columbus will be suffering some damage. Rain is in the forecast for the evening and for tomorrow. Say a prayer for everyone and I will keep you posted from what I hear from Elizabeth and Michelle.

:( OH NO!!!!! Please keep us posted!!!
raetherese - June 8, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
Update: Elizabeth has water about 3 feet deep in her basement and it still coming. Her backyard is completely underwater and Michelle is currently leaving her home for higher ground as her ways out are becoming limited. She said that water is coming in her basement but the streets surrounding her are flooding.
Please keep them in your prayers and thoughts.

Thanks Rachel, good to hear Michelle is gettingout of there. Josh and Jenny (the house next door to basecamp) had to evacuate they have a ton of water in their basement, up to the windows already and the sherrif told them the power would have to be shut down so no sump pump... Someone was ble to come and get them and a few of their precious belongings...
not sounding good for Columbus right now... :(
raetherese - June 8, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
I'm glad Jenny and Josh are ok. When I was getting out of Columbus I did drive past their house and it was BAD!!! Elizabeth is 5 houses down from Jenny. I should be hearing from Michelle later so I will keep you posted.

Just talked to Michelle and she was able to make it home for now. She said that her basement had a lot of water in it but she wasn't sure how long she would be able to stay at home since the rain is coming down again. Elizabeth said that water was receeding slightly at her house but mud and gunk was coming in her back door and the water levels in the basement were at about 4 feet. Not much they can do right now but wait it out.
Anyway, I will keep you posted as soon as I find out anything new.

Hope the storms have passed thru your area now and the waters are starting to recede. Stay safe all of you.

I will say a prayer for all of you. My daughter is going to graduate school in Kalamazoo, Michigan and she said on Friday the tornado sirens were going off and the sky turned black. She said they had hail bigger than golf balls and trees came down. Thanks to God no tornado!!! We are from Rhode Island so tornado sirens kind of scared her!!! God bless to all of you in Columbus!

Osh - June 9, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
so weird after being in Columbus on Friday night with everybody. Oshkosh is getting a lot of water as well, so far nothing like Columbus. Downtown is safe (where the movie scenes were shot) Over my way and by my mom's the creek has flooded the golf course and has reached the top of her retaining wall and they are sandbagging the hospital.
The area is in for several more days of rain.

Osh! Glad to hear from you tonight. It must be surreal, to see all the flooding. Thanks for checking in!! woohoo We've all been so worried!
herestoyou - June 9, 2008 02:01 AM (GMT)
Glad you ladies and your families are all safe---yes Osh, I've read that the area will still be getting heavy rain over the next few days. :( Keeping all of you in my thoughts----stay safe. :)

Osh, thanks for checking in and for the update. Columbus, WI actually was mentioned in my local news this evening because of all the rain you received. They even showed pictures!! That must have been one nasty, nasty storm. There was also some mention about people not having flood insurance because the area isn't in a flood zone. :(
Glad to hear you and the others are safe. Take care and hang in there.

Michelle had to leave her home again today but she is safe and sound. It is raining like crazy here right now. When will it ever end???

Rain, rain go away!!!! Unfortunately they are predicting the wet stuff every day this week.
Schools are closed in many districts, including Columbus, today!!! Lots of mud slides and damage to roads.

Lake Delton just got hit. (Filming was in the area of Mirror Lake and cast and crew stayed in the Dells/Lake Delton area)
Lake Delton news - Channel 3000.com
SarcasticCheese - June 9, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
Lake Delton is no more. When the dam broke, the lake drained. They showed some footage on the news of one of the houses literally breaking in half and falling into the lake. How scary! :(
We had some minor flooding here in Oshkosh, but nothing nearly as bad as Columbus and other parts of the state. I have water in my basement, but no more than an inch. And the standing water that was in my backyard this morning is gone now too.
They're calling this a 25 year flood (meaning, flooding like this only happens once every 25 years).
deppaholic - June 9, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
Those are such scary and disturbing reports, SarcasticCheese. I'm so sorry to hear all the bad news coming out of WI. Sending my thoughts and prayers to all those who are affected by the storms and flooding.
