Title: Greetings from Bat Country

RonMexico - June 3, 2008 01:58 PM (GMT)
Hey Everyone. Thought I'd say hello before I start rambling away across the board. I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp and I was delighted when I found this site. I am currently in college doing my Ph.D on Hunter S. Thompson and I also run a website dedicated to the good man. The link to it is in my sig. I think Johnny did an excellent job in Fear and loathing in Las Vegas and I am really looking forward to seeing him in The Rum Diary and The Ginger Man. I am going to a festival in Dublin next week to see JP Donleavy speak and it is heavily rumoured that Johnny will be there with Shane McGowan. Oh yeah I have the trailer to the new Hunter S. Thompson documentary narrated by Mr. Depp on my website. Also in the film section I have three videos of the good man reading his letters to Hunter. Thought I'd give you all a heads up on that. Look forward to chatting to you on here in the future. B)

Glad to have you here with us RonMexico! You will love JPD, he's fabulous! Can't wait to hear what you have to say after the festival. I was at his art exhibit in NY last year and was blessed to be his guest at dinner after. I just love the guy! Hope you'll enjoy what he has to say too. :welcome

Thats awesome. I'd love to meet JP and Johnny because I have a ton of questions for the two of them regarding Hunter S. Thompson. Hunter was a big fan of The Ginger Man and I have a book of his The Proud Highway that contains two letters that Hunter sent to JP in the late 50's/early 60's. I also have an article about the 50th Anniversary celebration in NYC of the publication of the Ginger Man where Johnny states - "without The Ginger Man there would have been no Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". The character of Sebastien Dangerfield had a big influence on Thompson's Raoul Duke persona.

Hopefully I will get a chance to talk to Johnny and JP at this thing in Dublin. Haven't a clue as to how I will get anywhere near them though. I have a ticket but I doubt I will be able to just walk over and talk to them.
