Title: Hunter Thompson documentary

deppfan4ever - May 29, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
I received my new issue of ELLE magazine the other day and they had a snippet about a documentary that is coming out in July about Hunter Thompson and that Johnny is going to be in it. (Of course there was a pic of the two of them together accompanying the article) Did anyone know about this? I'm sure that someone did but I have been out of the loop for most of the month due to my Mom's illness so I haven't been on here much and there could have been a mention and I just didn't see it.

I received an email from my local art movie house and it's on their schedule for July 18th... although they always state a movie that far out yet can always change.

Sorry to hear your mom is ill Nicci.

Thanks!! She had her stroke on a Tuesday and broke her leg in three places the following Saturday. Things have been wild here.

I will have to keep my eyes open for this documentary. I'm anxious to see it. Maybe one of the artsy theatres in Cincinnati will have it. I'll have to check it out.

I'll keep you in my prayers Nicci...
I remember when my auntie fell and broke her hip (at 82) those were wild days for quite some time and she didn't have to deal with recovery from a stroke as well.

Nicci.... wishing your mom a speedy recovery..... my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...

WOW!! I'm anxious to see that one!! I love hearing Johnny read. :snoopy

The whole era of New Journalism that HT was involved in was such an amazing time and those journalists defined the era.

Thanks Donna for the link!!

(Nicci, I too hope your mom is feeling better. I know what it's like to have a mom that isn't doing well).

You never know--they might add more venues/dates? It's not a mainstream type film, so it won't attract as large an audience. Hopefully we'll see more places---heck, it will be playing in Alaska!

Thanks Donna for the link to showtimes. It looks like it will show in my town, but.....the theater WAY across town. :banghead I really hate having to drive 45-1hr to see a movie. BUT.....I did it for Gypsy Caravan.

Two hours for me too. Nashville Reckon it will be out on DVD?

Bobbi - June 2, 2008 02:28 AM (GMT)
I am sure they will put it out on DVD. But it might take alittle bit. However, since it is not a mainstream type of film,it could be really quick. :)

I would see it only to see and hear Johnny. Hunter S Thompson is not one of my faves. interesting though. He and johnny were such good firends too.
If I cannot see it I will wait forthe DVD too.

The documentary is called Gonzo: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson and it is directed by award winning director Alex Gibney. It is narrated throughout by Johnny Depp who lived with Thompson for a few weeks when he was preparing for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny and Hunter were very close and Johnny forked out $4million to pay for Thompsons funeral blast off. I have a trailer of this on my site along with some clips of Johnny reading some letters to Hunter. Very cool. Hopefully now Johnny will get going on The Rum Diary. Can't wait!
