Title: just bought the double disc

I rented ST over the weekend and LOVED it. I allowed Evan to watch (frankly I have seen more pg-13 movies that were more deserving of R rating)

Like me he is hooked. We watched it 3 times before returning, and now we are watching all the bonus features. Sweeney has to be in my top 5 of all time favorites.

Glad you & Evan enjoyed the film Osh---I lost count how many times I saw it in theaters----the music is just so lovely! Johnny was so great in this role as he once again makes the character his own. The special features are great on the 2nd disc, too. I think we still have a discussion thread somewhere if you want to read through everyone's thoughts when the film was released. :)

EDIT: Here's a thread where we had a discussion---scroll down to SEEN SWEENEY thread.

For Father's Day my dad and I watched ST together. He enjoyed it.. although he wasn't a fan of the blood. :) But he said that he thought that the performaces were fabulous and that he couldn't imagine anyone else pulling it off.

We watched the second disc with the interviews and my dad said it was so hard to believe that was the same person that played ST. That is the beauty of acting.

Anyway, that was my dad's first JD viewing experience beyond JS so next we are doing Finding Neverland :)

Awwww, what a wonderful way to spend Fathers day. I am so pleased to hear that your dad enjoyed Sweeney. I have yet to meet anybody who didn't like it. :D

I do hope he enjoys Finding Neverland, but be sure to keep some tissues handy for him. :D

Jack Sparrow, Sweeney Todd and J.M. Barrie are all such different characters, your Dad will be getting a really well-rounded view of just what Johnny can do. If you aren't a JD fan, you probably wouldn't ever notice that they are the same actor. Benny & Joon would be another type of character all together. Maybe he would like that one too? Have fun! :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I think it was good to start dad off with Sweeney to really showcase how multi-talented JD is. My dad is also excited to see him opposite Brando in Don Juan. But I think that Benny and Joon is a great suggestion too. I am excited for him to see Jack Sparrow too.

I'll keep you posted on my dad's JD firsts :)

Oh, Finding Neverland is a tearjerker. I watched it a few weekends ago and even though I knew what was coming I still bawled!!

So, here is an update... my dad, on his own, watched Gilbert Grape the other night! He was so proud to tell me when we went out to eat that he had found that he had taped Gilbert Grape a few years ago so he thought he would check it out.

His first thought was, "I can't believe that is the same guy that was a murderous barber in ST". But he enjoyed the performance greatly and thought that JD and Leo really sold home the brother relationship.

And then he asked if I could bring ST over again... he wanted to give it another looksie. :)

I think we might have a Depp fan in training.... :thumbsup

Hugs to everyone!!

Rachel
