Sorry Ellen, Chris Wedge is directing, Christi is producing, along with Graham King. I'm not sure if this is the first time she has produced though. :D

It's interesting that this was first purchased as a potential vehicle for Martin Scorsese. I'm glad that didn't happen as it seems like a perfect fit for IN.

Christi Dembrowski is listed as assistant or executive assistant on her entries on IMDB. As his long-time manager, she must very familiar with all of Johnny's work and his philosophy about he prefers various types of situations to be handled.

She'll be great coproducing with Graham King. He's a very experienced producer, so working together, I think it should go very well for both of them.

Karen that's a GREAT site! Wow--definitely sounds like something Johnny would be interested in for sure. Glad IN is producing this-----hmmm, do I see a possible book discussion in the future? :shistle

hey, isn't Christi Johnny's sister? I've always thought that, but maybe I've been wrong all this time... my memory seems to work in strange fashion these days ;)

Yes, she's Johnny's sister and long time assistant/personal manager. She's also the #2 person at IN. It's exciting that she's getting a chance to spread her wings with this producing assignment.

Just finished The Invention of Hugo Cabret. What a wonderfully moving and lovely book. It really is magical and transports you completely into its world.

After the end of the story, the book lists a Web site at which you can see very interesting photos and the story behind a mysterious automaton that was discovered and repaired:

I think you'll like it, Karen. It only takes about an hour to read---there are many pages of illustrations used to advance the story. I think it could make a unique film.
:thanks, carpediem, for the link about the automaton. Aren't they intriguing?

It's a beautiful book, I saw it in a bookstore when I was out of town last week, so I am really excited about reading it. LOL I put it back on the shelf when I saw the size tho and decided to let UPS deliver it, rather than haul it on the plane. lol It should be here any day now!

If one wants to explore more into the history of films check out "Before Hollywood" by Paul Clee and "Edison's Eve" a magical history of the quest for mechanical life by Gaby Wood. These books are mentioned in remarks section of Hugo and contain great illustrations and information about the machines that projected early films. If you love children's books "Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride" illusrated by Brian Selznick is a real treat, and "The Boy of a Thousand Faces" written and illustrated by Brian Salznick is great also. Just FYI. Anne r :)
