I did see it and have read a few reviews of the book. I think it's interesting, and wonder about reading it. I am such a fan of the movie, that when I read the book and learned the original ending, I was really disappointed. LOL I wanted the movie ending. Wonder what she does with these characters now??

Uh Oh! now I'm nervous about it too. It's usually the other way around for me, I read a book, fall in love with it and hate the movie!
But I never did read Chocolat and loved the movie, soooooo...... I may be scared off now ;)

Well, it has the same characters...but not even close to the same ending.

this may be the first time in history I avoid a book because I loved the movie! :)

That's interesting Karen---I read the book after the movie too and liked the movie better--especially the Roux character......

It's a very well written, lovely book, but the movie people changed the course of the lives of the characters and stepped away from the book's plotlines. It's not fair of me to have compared the two. The book is great on its own and so is the movie. But I like the movie better. LOL ;)

Thanks for the link Shakenbsis. woohoo
I love both Chocolat the movie and the book, and actually prefer the character of Roux in the book, he is so different, edgy but sexy. So I shall definately read this new one. I'll let you know what it's like. :thumbsup

I have not read the book but heard about the different ending. It was a little bit strange against the movie I think.

Thanks for that Karen and Jeppody!
Perhaps I can give it a chance, and forwarned, maybe be able to keep my emotional attachment to the characters (as I now know them) in check! LOL
I love this place...

If it is any help to you Shakenbsis, we discussed Chocolat the book back in 2004...Crikey, was it really that long ago? Anyway, if you just read the first couple of discussion points, it may give you some idea if you would like to try the book. If you don't read Chocolat, then I am guessing that the new book may be a little confusing...just a guess of course.
The discussion is here

Thanks Anne for suggesting the old (YIKES was it THAT long ago?) discussion for her to read!

Thanks Anne!
Sounds like a great discussion you all had. (Johnny with red hair?? I guess I could see a deep auburn...) I just read the first two points as suggested and will probably give the book a try.
I just finished 'The People's Act of Love' yesterday, so I am looking for something new to read. For some reason, none of the unread titles on my shelf are appealing at the moment though I've got some good ones... :(

In the extras on the DVD, you can see a scene where they have him in a curly reddish wig...eeeeeeeeeek

Eeeeek indeed. I don't remember ever seeing that...need to take another look at the extras!
I'm really glad there is a sequel to the book. I'll have to add it to the long list of books I want to read.

I am at chapter 3 and it is holding my interest esp. the computer technolgy and assumption of several different names. :) Anne r
