Thanks Karen--interesting that in that 2nd article they give a budget of $300 million for PE--gone up quite a bit from the earlier $100 million reports!

Which one is real? $300million or $100 million?

:)

herestoyou - April 26, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
I don't think we'll know for sure until next year, but with all this location shooting, I would imagine the 2nd figure could be more accurate.

A later report today has filming ending in JULY now.

And I have to agree, I think it's way over $100 million.

I can't say I'm too disappointed the filming will go into the summer since I've been spoiled with all the details & pics we've seen! Maybe we will see the Dillinger gang in CA then for sure :)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news .But i somehow think that there will be little or no filming in CA. Johnny will be available but Christian Bale wont.He has PR commitments to the new Batman movie which is due out on July18th Then he is schedualed to start filming Terminator 4which is due for release in May before PE.
As their doing location shooting in Chicago until June 15th and then still have to go to Miami.Theres not going to be much time left for any studio shooting.

Bale's not the main character. He's (Purvis) not in even half of the scenes and to the best of my knowledge only has a few minutes with Depp's character so I don't know how much of his ability to be anywhere is a factor. Mann will shoot what he needs to get when he can have access to the talent. At some point in time, there should be sound stage work and looping to be done. Where is anyone's guess, but Bale doesn't need to be most places that Depp is. They just don't have that much on screen time together.

herestoyou - April 29, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
I'm assuming that CA filming will involve the Tuscon scene even though some part of BDam is being used for this locale. Purvis wasn't involved in Tuscon, so I wouldn't expect him to be in CA for any of that filming. However, as the articles all state, the filming schedule is in constant change, so I'm sure we won't know for sure until farthe down the line.

I had thought I read July somewhere before... I'm sure it was from you Karen :)

Anyway, is the potential actors strike playing a factor in cranking this out quickly too? That would be so disappointing to be almost done and then have the strike come upon them. The wrtiers strike lasted much longer than people thought so I think the industry is nervous about this.

As far as Bale, I have read some pretty sad accounts of fan encounters with him, and it wasn't his behavior that was sad. I am hoping they aren't true and when he comes to Madison we can show him some love too. (Well, my friend can... I will just be supporting her :) ) But you know what I mean.

Thanks for the great links and info, great conversation and being a great bunch of people. :snoopy

Karen - April 29, 2008 04:30 AM (GMT)
I can't help but think that the potential for an actor's strike could be why the finish date was the end of June. But, hopefully, they will get what they need on schedule and there won't be a strike. :crossfingers

I don't know anything about Bale, but hope he's treated well by the fans.

Thanks for the nice words, glad you are here with us!

Here's an interesting bit about location filming in Chicago including the Biograph exterior filming and use of the Portage Theater for some interior filming.

This also says the Chicago filming starts mid May. Wonder what date they consider to me "mid May?" lol And as we thought, it's a scheduled 6 week shoot. (no pun intended)

That IS very interesting! I had no idea that the inside of the Biograph had been gutted!! I thought they had already done some filming there inside, I must not have been paying attention. Also thought the Portage Theatre was in Portage, WI! LOL silly me...

ReadinDeppth - April 30, 2008 02:22 PM (GMT)
The bit about Lincoln Ave being dicey if they film at the Biograph is spot on! The street is very narrow there with the Biograph building being just about the only building in the realm of 1930's style. It's not a very pretty part of town and really would need quite a bit of temodeling/staging to bring it back to the original look. Of course, the Universal stage crews are real good at this sort of thing. ;)

Here's the Biograph taken a few weeks ago

and on July 22, 1934.

Can you imagine the large crowds packing into this small area though? BTW the alley is still there and usable. There's actually a better one across the street that could be used as well.

It's cool to see the real sights and imagine how it would look in the film.

I'm getting excited!! :snoopy :snoopy

Good grief the server is sloooooooooooow today, sheesh

They filmed interiors in the Paramount Theater in Aurora a while ago, so it sounds like more interior shots the the Portage and then exterior at the Biograph itself.

Thanks Holly for the recent pic of the Biograph! Yikes! Those old streets are very narrow! It'll be interesting to see what they end up using!

Hmmm, the Portage Theater isn't far from me. Hope we get a heads-up when they will be filming there. But, again, this is confusing. I thought the Paramount Theatre in Aurora was supposed to act as the inside of the Biograph. How can they use the Portage for the same theater?

We know they used the seating are of the Paramount.

They could be using the lobby or interior area, or the box office area of the Portage. Does anyone know if there's an exterior box office at the Portage?

Could be, Karen. It's amazing all the different locations they can use to put together as one place. I haven't been to the Portage Theater in ages. It was closed at one point and I guess went through some redecorating. They used to have an exterior box office, but don't know if that is still the case. It appears the theater now mostly shows old movies and is used for special events. Here's a link to a little history of the theater. Unfortunately, the picture is not very good and there is a van driving past it covering the front.

Thanks Terry, it looks like a great theater and they show silent pictures there too!

This is all so interesting---didn't we have an extra actor report from the filming inside the theater that it was a scene where Dillinger and group were watching a movie, but a newsreel came on asking the theater goers to help catch Dillinger and then Dillinger was trying to sneak out of the theater? Or am I totally confused and that was a different theater? -lol Maybe the Chicago filming will be the actual Biograph bits. I can't keep them all straight anymore! :ph43r:

Karen - May 1, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
Look for "Dillinger" to be shot outside of the real Biograph, and other scenes filmed at the Portage.

Christine M - May 1, 2008 01:12 PM (GMT)
So, as it stands right now they are going to use the Biograph (outside scene(s). That is really cool!

I was just talking to the gal who went with me on the Swing Dance casting call in Chicago and she got a call back!!! I'm so excited for her. She is debating whether to go, as she doesn't want to go alone. It's scheduled for rehearsals on the 13th and 14th with filming on the 15th and 16th. But no location yet. Wardrobe fittings are next week I think. She needs to talk to the folks again to get more details and give her answer. Oh, I hope she goes!!

Holly

I knooooow! I've offered to go with her and to even babysit for her child. She's very responsible and just got back from 2 weeks unpaid leave to go home to Rumania so she's really up in the air about it!

I can see her point, but oh I wish I could give her some of my leave time! Argh. :crossfingers

I would so love to do her job :D
She so has to do this. :thumbsup
There is no other way. ;)

SarcasticCheese - May 1, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
Agreed - she has to do it!

I'm going to be in Chicago on the 16th. Maybe I'll luck out and be able to catch something while I'm there! :D

SavvyGurl - May 2, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Oh, Holly, how exciting for your friend! I can understand her reluctance about taking more time off right now, but maybe if she explains to her employer, they will understand what a once in a lifetime chance this would be. I sure hope it works out for her and she can do it.
