I agree Christine!
I'm so happy I'm watching this because I didn't read the book.
Love the original pictures and footage too!
And doesn't Mr. Burrough look very handsome tonight!
Karen - April 20, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
I guess we are all doing the same thing MusicMan! And I sure can see Depp as Dillinger after really watching those old news reels!

Said, Mr. Burrough does look quite dapper this evening. He looks quite comfy sitting on that couch!!
MerryK - April 20, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
Now that was a very interesting show!!!
Did you catch the bit where Dillinger took the bank hostages with them and let them out a bit later on down the road. They were asked what was it like, thinking they'd get comments like horrible. The guy said that they seemed like a likeable bunch.. drinking and Johnny was singing.
Hmmmmm.. wonder if there will be a re-enactment of that and we get Johnny singing again..

Hope they leave that plastic surgery bit out.. dont want to see THAT face messed up!!
I am even more anxious.. if that is even possible for this movie!!! Johnny is going to be amazing in this role!!

I think I read that Dillinger sang to Billie while they were dancing!?
MerryK - April 20, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)
So maybe we can keep our fingers :crossfingers then!!

If he did, that is so romantic. I don't know if Dillinger has my heart because of the way writers and historians talk about him or if it's because Johnnie is playing him. I don't remember thinking so much about Dillinger before the filming of PE. :shistle

Oh yeah!
It has a name and a direct cause.
No cure is known however and no one is actively searching for an antidote either.

We have something in common, Joanie -- mine is even worse if he suspects (or just decides to accuse) it has something to do with Johnny.
I might be able to convince him if there is nothing else on that he wants to waste his time watching. Maybe I can get a few peeks during commercials. Thanks for the reminder, Karen!

Burleycue - April 20, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Oooh Joanie...sorry to hear that! Did you get to record it?
Arnelle, I hope you got to see it! It really was very interesting. I knew the story of Dillinger and Bonnie & Clyde, but never knew what happend to Babyface Nelson and Machinegun Kelly. I'm STILL waiting for my Dillinger book to arrive (it's been a month since I ordered it!)
Yes, Johnny IS Dillinger...that smirk! And the gold tooth! This is right up his alley, I think, and I'm sure he's eating this role up.
Karen - April 20, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
Oh no Julie! Sorry that your book is taking so long to get there!!!
I have to agree, Johnny just has to be having a blast!
Johnnygirl23 - April 20, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
I am also waiting for my book to arrive. :) I heard that they are many demands for it at the moment. Maybe that is the reason why it takes so long. But I can still be patient because I am reading Don Juan at the moment. ;) And maybe that is the reason and we get so much great new information to see every day. :thumbsup :thanks :jdr

I have a feeling it will be repeating again throughout the year and definitely as a lead up to the film. I know I saw it a month or two ago, and it's back again. :) If you haven't seen the Dillinger film with Warren Oates, you might want to check it out as a contrast to the History Channel program---quite different in many ways.(I didn't really care for the film, but I wanted to see what it was like) I think MMann will do more justice to accurately portraying Dillinger in PE.

Thanks for the heads-up Karen. I really enjoyed seeing this show.
I was most struck by something one of the commentators said (not Brian) - that the American Society or Association of Magicians awarded Dillinger with it's Harry Houdini award for his escape from jail!
Karen - April 20, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Thanks to everyone for the info and the links!
And I agree, I was struck by the Houdini award too!

I'm a day late and a dollar short. I don't even know what day it is, apparently. Old age stinks.
I didn't see it but that's okay, I'm going to bet the repeat it at some point before July 09.

I also loved the quote by Will Rogers...
"Dillinger is going to accidentaly get with some innocent bystanders sometime. Then he will get shot."
