I just got back from the Wittman airfield in Oshkosh. A plane scene was being filmed. A helicopter with a camera attached was filming the plane while flying. The plane sort of looks like the Spirit Of St Louis. Theres still 1930's police cars parked by the Basler builiding with what looks like extras standing by them.

I guess Johnny hasn't really quit smoking after all. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know how he does it, though, doing all these overnight shoots. Too bad the weather isn't better. Hope he, and everyone working on the movie for that matter, are getting enough rest and don't get sick.

Thanks for all the great information. Keep it coming. My house is going to the dogs but I am will informed about this movie. I think all this knowledge about Dillinger and the different towns is very enlightening. ( That's my story and I sticking to it)
Thanks. JDR my day would not be complete without you.

Breaks my heart. I had myself convinced that he had stopped completely. But this writer also talks about the trenchcoat-clad JD and it looked like he had his leather jacket on walking from the plane, so maybe she isn't quite accurate. Sounds like they went from the plane to the car to the site, did he change coats in the car? I need to see proof. Until then, I'm still holding out hope. :(

The reporter details what Johnny is wearing when he gets out of his black Escalade, not when he deplanes.

Let's please remember that if Johnny is or isn't smoking is his personal business.

That's true, Karen, but I was really hoping that he had stopped for his own health as well as his kids. However, smoking or not, it doesn't change the way I feel about him. I still admire him and appreciate his talent and ethics.

We all care about Johnny, but lets please allow him his privacy, and end the discussion. Thanks ;) There's too many other things about the filming to discuss. woohoo

As I read all the info between Rod's Blog and here I shake my head. I am amazed by the long days the actors put in and the cold weather they are dealing with. I have to admire Michael Mann and the actors for their perseverance. It makes me so much more appreciative of what they do.

Thanks Donna for posting the article and its link.

And when you think about how many hours it takes to get a few minutes on screen time...yikes! Amazing!

herestoyou - April 12, 2008 05:07 AM (GMT)
It sure does give you an appreciation for the film process doesn't it?

woohoo Here are some links to photos of the filming at the airport 4/11. Thanks to Rod(Grinder) on the PE Columbus blog. These links are posted on his blog, too.

Thanks everyone for all the info/links. We've been pretty lucky so far, haven't we? If this had been filming in L.A., we'd never get this much info, as there are films shooting on the streets here everyday (so it's not a "big deal") It must be a huge change for the smaller towns/cities to have a movie being shot on their streets...and for the most part, the people seem to love it!

This is a great behind the scenes video clip with PE extras at the airport and some of the activity--very cute how they filmed this: :)

Oh gosh reading all these articles and seeing all these pictures and videos sends shivers down my spine. I really can feel that this movie will be great!!! It's just amazing how much work they put into detail. And it's fantastic to be updated that regularely about the movie...gives you the feeling of being right there on the set. :)

So thanks everyone for sharing all this information, pictures and videos with us on JDR. It is appreciated very much!!!

Karen - April 12, 2008 12:54 PM (GMT)
Thanks Donna for all these great updates!!!

A side note, these pics have been published in a paper, not sure what Universal may do. So enjoy them all! ;)

I can tell you, weather-wise, yesterday was an awful day here....rain, fog and damp. I'm planning to drive over to Oshkosh on Monday/Tuesday, since it sounds like today is supposed to be indoor filming.

Karen - April 12, 2008 02:22 PM (GMT)
Thanks for that update Shopgirl1! It just looks cold there too. Drive carefully on those wet streets.

To fill people in on what's they seem to be filming, this is what I just posted to JohnnyDeppReadsblog.

The filming of Public Enemies with Johnny Depp was in action over night in Oshkosh when Basler Flight Services filled in for 1930s Chicago's Midway Airport where Dillinger was taken after his arrest in Tucson. Filming is expected to continue there though the twentieth as Oshkosh fills in for Sioux Falls where Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Homer Van Meter and their gang robbed the First National Bank while people were convinced they were watching a movie filming. The word on the street is that after filming in Oshkosh is completed they will move to Little Bohemia area to film the notorious FBI - Dillinger gang shoot out.

I wasn't sure about posting it Karen, so please remove it if you feel Universal may not want it up--don't want to step on their toes! :)

Thanks for the update on your blog---I think OKosh is where some great action will occur this week--I would love to be at Little Bohemia, but I would imagine that security will be pretty tight around that location. I think these reports help build the anticipation for the film for sure. Rod(Grinder's) blog has a nice pic of Johnny from yesterday, too.

Nice Johnny pic here-scroll down on 4/11

That's such a cute video. I love how they captured the 30's newsreel feel in the narration!

MissCaptainWeird - April 13, 2008 09:38 AM (GMT)
any word about Johnny meeting fans? Maybe he won't do as much meeting and greeting due to the bad weather. Light rain is one thing but a big storm is another.

I hope it clears up though. B)

Man, that plane in Oshkosh is too cool, B'gosh.

Thanks all for the fabulous info and pics links!

There's filming in Oshkosh this week. Does anybody know the streets name where the filming will be taking pace?

I'm still rather new to the whole thing, I'm looking to come down. So how early do you think I should show up?

raetherese - April 13, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
No meet and greets have occured in Oshkosh so far. It was a quick in and out for JD before returning to Chicago for the weekend. Filming is scheduled to resume tomorrow and rumor is that it is a daytime shoot. From what I read on Rod's blog, the rest of the Oshkosh filming is late night filming.

MissCaptainWeird - April 13, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
does anyone know if he was able to take a break for Jack's birthday?
I am sure he was, but who knows w/ the crazy schedule he has been keeping.

herestoyou - April 13, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
Thanks raetherese for the update. Here's a link to some photos taken today of more prep in OKosh Sunday 4/13. Link below the posted pic to other great photos. Looks like the Masonic building is the place to be tomorrow.......

This one looks interesting!

This is DEFINITELY a "time will tell", but Kitty has posted over on Rod's blog that a Meet & Greet has been announced for Monday in OKosh. For anyone planning on making the trip, I would suggest go with the idea that you probably won't meet Johnny and then if it happens--- woohoo However, no one knows what will happen once filming begins........
