Title: Aurora, IL Filming Date
Description: Official(?) Word

SavvyGurl - March 27, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
This is what I found out today... I called the Paramount Theatre and talked to someone in the box office. He told me that they would only be filming one day and he thinks it's April 5th. He sounded pretty confident about the one day of filming, but was only fairly sure about it being the 5th. I then emailed the Director of the theater to confirm and she wrote back just saying that there will be nothing to watch as all filming will be done indoors. She wouldn't tell me what day the filming will be though. I'm sure she's trying to discourage people from hanging around.

So, it looks like this is going to be like in Crown Point, where we will only catch a glimpse of Johnny as he heads in and out of the theater. I was hoping they were going to be doing the outdoor "gunning down" scene, but maybe they will actually do that outside of the real Biograph Theatre. I know Michael Mann was checking that area out. If so, I hope we can get advance notice about that.

At any rate, I will still be in Aurora on the 5th and hope to get a couple of glimpses of Johnny. I can't wait!

Terry thanks for the detective work...I think it will be difficult to say about the amount of filming. We had a report that filming in CP on Wed. would probably only be in the AM, but not it looks likes it's going later. Good luck to you and we'll look forward to any info. you can provide. Thanks for the update! :)

Thanks Terry for trying to find out something for us. Everything in this business is "fluid" and pretty much a time will tell deal.

Thanks for the update, Terry! It makes sense they'd use the real Biograph Theatre for the 'gunning down' scene since it's the 'real deal' and still looks very much the way it did back in the day (at least on the outside). I believe people still go there to visit the alley where Dillinger died, and isn't there a ghost hanging around too? Audiences who know the story will be expecting to see the authentic site in the movie, IMO.
GOOD LUCK to all who venture to Aurora! I won't be there, except in spirit, cheering you all on! :thumbsup

This is still a *time will tell* situation...let's see what gets filmed in Aurora. Most audiences don't know what the Biograph Theater looks like.

It does appear that they are not giving out complete information, possibly to keep the crowds to a minimum, to keep people confused.

Parlez, I'm really sorry it won't work out for you this time. I was looking forward to meeting you. And you're right, Karen, no one knows for sure what's going to happen where.

Just my opinion here but they always say "There's nothing to see" but that isn't always true. Trust me, most of Darlington and CP the first day was indoors, but we had lots of opportunities to see him enter and leave and then afterwards.

They are supposedly filming today in Chicago and there are huge snowflakes and now sleet coming down as we speak. They may be delayed a bit.

Here is a picture of the Biograph I took on Sunday and I dont' think they really will use it (of course what do I know) but it would take A LOT of work not only on the theatre, but surrounding area. It's VERY cramped in the street area and the buildings are all newer on the outside. Whereas the Paramount outside is much closer to the original architecture.

Guess it's a wait and see. Michael Mann changes his mind on a moment's notice sometimes. They added extra scenes in Columbus that weren't scheduled just to fit it in with the season.
Well. Can I say I hate PB with a passion? I've resized 3 times... I'm down to an avatar and it's not letting me do squat!! ( RAVE HERE)

(I give)

I think its just a matter of places trying to be subtle to fans about not coming.. there's nothing going to be seen.. because the crowds are really growing from when it was just those first few days. It's just one of those things.. you wont know unless you go! It can always be a big hit and miss, but I think the excitement alone would be great!

Can you put it in photobucket and use the thumbnail option?

If you want, you can email it to me at johnnydeppreads@aol.com and I'll try to post it for you.

Antoher update from today's Chicago Sun-Times:

QUOTE
DEPP DOINGS: Given all the old stories about John Dillinger hiding from the feds in Aurora, it seems apt Johnny Depp will be acting out the famed 1930s gangster's death on the streets of the far west suburban town.

The Paramount Theater in Aurora will fill in for Lincoln Park's Biograph Theater -- the real site of the FBI's Dillinger ambush -- in ''Public Enemies." Filming is slated for early next month.

So, maybe they WILL be using the Paramount for the big scene outside the Biograph Theatre? Who to believe? Maybe this should be under the Time Will Tell category.

Terry

Thanks Terry, I hope we get word sometime, I read this article a while ago and it still quotes the old filming dates of April 6 & 7...but there was a contract signed for the Paramount's use.

I'll be there...guess I'll have to add Saturday just in case. Any ideas on what time to arrive for the best chance to see Johnny enter? I'm so excited for a chance to see anything related to filming! But hoping for a Johnny glimpse, of course. :crossfingers
