Oooh, I wish it would happen. Dali is one of my very favorite artists.

Well it certainly does sound interesting---definitely a wait and see.

Thanks Karen. There was a rumor about this awhile back. At that time they said a script by Philippe Mora was complete and it was ready to shoot as soon as a cast was in place. I agree, this sounds like a longshot. If all these rumors of Johnny projects were true, Johnny would have to make several films a year for many years! It will be interesting to see which ones actually happen.

I'm not sure I 'get' Dali.
The paintings are interesting, but ....
( Would it be ok for someone here to explain any one of these paintings mentioned in the article ? )

I don't know that you can successfully explain Dali. I think of all art as personal preference, either you like it or you don't. It's neither right or wrong. It's about as subjective as you can be.

There are a ton of SD sites out there that can help with interpreting his work. One of my fav quotes from Dali about his own work is this one:

QUOTE
"Just because I don't know the meaning of my art, does not mean it has no meaning."

Even he didn't know. lol

I'll think about that one a little more!

Ok, I just started my learning about Dali.
Here's a very interesting comparison:
Dali's self portrait: http://www.3d-dali.com/Tour/Salvador.htm
Johnny's self portrait:
here

Pirates' sand dunes and boat was an idea from Dali, also, yes?

A couple more coincidences:
And there's Galatea Dunkel from 'On the Road'. Dali has a Galatea painting.
He also has a Malestrom painting, nothing like pirate boats though.
I'm noticing similarities with Tim's trees and Dali's as well.

Well, I think Johnny would do wonderful in this type of movie! :thumbsup
Really interesting idea.

~Depputante - swallowing a big grain of salt.

I read this as a movie Johnny was trying to set up under IN, not necessarily one he, himself you star in.

Gee, the first paragraph says:
QUOTE
The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star will play surrealist painter Salvador Dali in new film 'Dali' and is keen to get the right script, regardless of who it comes from.

I wonder if Johnny's a fan of M. C. Escher? One of my faves.

carpediem - March 7, 2008 03:49 AM (GMT)
I don't see it on IMDB, although the project might not be up to that stage yet.

IMDB lists Johnny as participating in 6 films currently being made:

Sin City 3 (2009) (in production) (rumored) .... Wallace
The Rum Diary (2009) (in production) .... Paul Kemp
Sin City 2 (2009) (pre-production) (rumored)
Shantaram (2009) (pre-production) .... Lindsay
Public Enemies (2009) (pre-production) .... John Dillinger
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) (filming) (attached)

Thanks Carpediem, I think some of those really are "time will tell" projects. ;)

I was looking for JD self portrait.
I find it better than Dali's.
