Will Spring 2011 Be A Franchising Nexus For Disney?? TRON News, And More!!

WALL*E-WONKA, who has contributed to AICN before, sent along a few details about what Disney has coming up in a few years. At the moment, all roads lead to early 2011.

He says the new TRON project will be presented in 3D.

CARS 2 is also being eyed for a 2011 slot, along with a third NATIONAL TREASURE film and a fourth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.

In regards to PIRATES, two dramatically conflicting assessments about how a fourth film might be approached have been making the rounds.

Some indications suggest the film's story would be far more contained than its predecessors, allowing for a budget-friendly downsizing.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's been unsubstantiated talk that a fourth film would go the other way completely...think in terms of ultra fantastical (dinosaurs, Jules Verne-esque floating fortresses, etc.) Not sure how I feel about either notion, to be honest. Not sure if I even care to see a fourth PIRATES film at all.

It's a long time before 2011 & things are likely to change a bit between now & then...so don't this info as being set in stone. For example, it might make far more sense...in many ways...to spread these projects out, presuming all of them (or only some of them) come to fruition.

I love Jack dearly, but I am not sure if I really want another Pirates movie. Maybe if they made it a good story, with less CGI, no blockbuster, just fun and interesting. We shall see, and of course, whatever they do, if the good Captain is in it, I'll be there. :rolleyes:

I'd love to see more Capt Jack and Hector than another maelstrom type of CGI "character"..come on Disney!! Take us back to real pirate stories....a little of the supernatural is OK....but...let's get back to real storytelling. :captainjack Not so much what "boys" can do with their expensive ILM "toys." :upinsmoke

I love Jack and Pirates but im also on the fence as to a Pirates 4. I would be interested if they did it write. As some others have said, less CGI. I personally would like a back story, with Jack and Beckett, perhaps seeing the mutiny of Jack from the Black Pearl and how he originally sold his sole to Davy Jones.

This will be a curious and interesting 'time will tell'.

I'd sail with the captain again, gladly!

But I'm of an accord...less CGI, more character-driven stories.

Jack and Hector pursuing the Fountain of Youth and battling/outwitting each other for the Pearl would be great fun.

And I'd like to see Gibbs, Pintel and Ragetti, Marty, our mute pirate (who's name unfortunately escapes me at the moment) and his parrot, Murtogg (sp?) & Mullroy and, of course, Jack the Monkey.

Is the one you forgot mr. Cotton?? ;)

Btw, just a stupid question, you are all talking about CGI, who or what is that?? :huh: I think when you say it I will think: ohhhhhwwww :P but now..... :blink: :angel

Sorry for the abreiviation, CGI means Computer Generated Imaging. When they create images or actions completely on the computer. One example would be the maelstrom scene in At World's End.

Yes, the malestrom seemed to take on the proportions of a character all of it's own and that was a bit much to me. Computer Generated Imaging is a very useful tool, but, in my opinion, you can have too much of a good thing.

I agree with the less CGI-well, maybe one CGI-lol---but I want Jack to have a love interest------ :shistle ---can't just have all that testosterone in there :P

I am all for a 4th POTC, but like others have said, it really should have a decent plot and focus more on traditional pirating instead of heading much more into the supernatural world. I still felt like we should have had more CJS in AWE, even though we got that amazing Davy Jones' Locker scene.

BTW, Depp Nightwish Fan - I don't know if you saw the BAFTAs, but when the host introduced Orlando Bloom, he had a joke with CGI in it...saying that Orlando has been in so many films with special effects that he only will eat at CGI Friday's. :rolleyes:

I'm sorry for posting outdated rumors. I was trying to figure out how to link it to this page. I think I understand now. Wouldn't it be cool to see Jack finding Atlantis? Maybe meeting a mermaid. That would be kind of stupid right?

Nope,, nothing new recently---I'm sure the writer's strike didn't help and I think it's still a time will tell anyway. Johnny has quite a few projects still in the works, so I think he'll have plenty to do in the meantime. :)

I would love to see a POTC4, especially if it gave us more about the relationship of Jack and Teague. The kid book series by Rob Kidd recently had some back story on their relationship, which was fun to explore. It also told more about the back story of Gibbs.

It seems likely it would be in 3-D since Disney is making such a big push for 3-D now.

I have mixed feelings about a POTC4. I love me some Captain Jack, and Johnny on the big screen, but I also don't want to see the franchise overdone. If they can make it just as awesome as the first three without sacrificing anything, I could get behind it. But, there's a part of me that thinks they should just quit while they're ahead... :unsure:

Oh I would love more Captain Jack, the places he could go. Maybe they should have the fans send in suggestions for the next adventure. That would be such fun...I bet Disney would really go for that :lol:

Well I said it before and I will say it again: As long as we really get some time until the next movie, I'm okay with it. Even though I really liked the POTC movies they are definitely not my favorite Johnny movies...but still I know he loves playing Jack and I'd love to see him in the role again, so it's all good as long as there is a decent script. I'm just a bit worried that they overdo it at some point. 'Cause sometimes people simply don't know where to stop. On the other hand I have absolute confidence in Johnny that he wouldn't play the character again if the script wasn't good. And 2011 also sounds like a really reasonable time for the movie to come out. So I'm all positive! :)

I can't believe you are all saying this. I could fall out of my chair out of anticipation waiting to hear there is another great script. I would just love to see Jack back, he is MY favorite Johnny character. Long live the Captain.. :captainjack

I think we can trust Johnny to know what's best for him as far as future projects. ;) We all have personal preferences with his different films, but I trust his judgement.

Johnny said himself in an interview that "if" all the right things fell into place ie. script, director, cast, etc. he would then and only then consider doing another "Pirates". As much as he loves the character of "Jack" he said he would not just jump into another movie without all the right elements being in place. I aggree with Karen. If he decides to do another "pirates" then I would assume he has weighed all the issues and feels it would be entertaining for his fans to be given another glance at the life of "Captian Jack". You are correct Karen. We can trust Johnny enough to make that choice. Regardless of what he does with future projects, I am sure what ever character he plays it will be well worth watching. :D

Yup, quoting myself. I trust Johnny's judgement too. These plot ideas outlined in the article FANtasticJD posted would suggest to me that Johnny might not want to be involved, which is what I mean when I say I'm not sure I'd be interested in another POTC film. Whatever happened to the Fountain of Youth plot concept as suggested at the end of At World's End? :blink:

There was talk of two POSSIBLE ideas for a 4th film. None were cemented and were merely suggestions at the time. We don't know for sure what the plot would be for the 4th yet as so far, there is a lot of speculation. Speculation gets people talking. I've heard that a script is ready, but no one's talking. I'm sure once/if all of the ducks are in a row then Disney will tell us what to expect. AWE set up a fountain of youth teaser. Time will tell on this one. LOL

I think you guys read me wrong. I'm behind Johnny also. Whatever he decides, I'm there. I just have a problem sometimes putting into words how I feel. I'm all heart when it comes to our sweet dear man...
