Depp acquires NJ scribe's film option

Bloomsbury books has announced that Johnny Depp's production company, Infinitum Nihil, along with Initial Entertainment Group, have finalized a film option agreement for "The Affected Provincial's Companion" by Lord Breaulove Swells Whimsy -- the pen name of Victor Allen Crawford III, who lives in the rural Pine Barrens town of New Egypt.

Crawford's book, released in the United States and United Kingdom in September, is an eccentric, humorous and slightly bittersweet autobiographical account of the author's life as a reclusive dandy and country gentleman. The book was typeset, art-directed, designed and illustrated by "Lord Whimsy," complete with unusual charts and diagrams.

What is not known is whether Depp -- who has played several left-of-center characters in recent films -- will produce the film, star in it or both.
