Title: Another ST article/Tim Interview
Description: Horror Hound mag scans/DShadows mention
herestoyou - February 3, 2008 04:56 AM (GMT)
This is an article/interview with Tim on Stodd---on the 2nd page is the Dark Shadows mention. (Note: I transcribed the DS mention in a post below.) I apologize in advance for the scan quality---the print is rather small in the magazine, so you may want to make your screen resolution large. I'll try to post the Johnny mentions separately.
If you want to post these scans elsewhere, please give credit to JDR.WARNING: ADULT LANGUAGE IN THE ARTICLEHORROR HOUND MAGAZINE -Jan. 2008Click on the thumbnail, then put your cursor over the pic that pops up to enlarge the pic again. Sorry the print is so small.

Since the print is so small, here's the Dark Shadows mention:

| So, this next leads to the question that many a Dark Shadows fan is wondering. Will Tim Burton direct Johnny’s rumored film version of the gothic soap? “I’m talking to him about it now.” He reveals, “We just talked about it recently. We’re definitely into it. I was a child when that came on. It like, hammered a nail into my head that one…Something really weird and amazing about it. I think the key is to find the right tone, and do it the right way. Definitely, definitely into it!” |

This was reported on the Time Will Tell thread but I think most folks missed it there. It's great to have the whole article scanned. Many thanks!

Yes, this is the actual article from the magazine. Since the print was so small I wanted to just post the quote so it would be easier to read. Thanks for posting the quote on the TWTell thread FAN as well. I just wish the print was larger in the magazine. The second page of the article has some interesting thoughts by Tim.

That would be so great if both Tim and Johnny do Dark Shadows. I loved that show when I was growing up. That was the first time I saw a vampire character handled as if a real person rather than just a caricature.

Thanks so much Donna for the scans, they are just great!
I'm on record has hoping that Burton does not get involved with Dark Shadows. As I've questioned in another thread.....let's see....what role would HBC have? Josette or Angelique? sheesh Johnny....go outside the box on this one PLEASE, it's what you always do and we appreciate that about you. We already know what the movie would look like, Sweeney in modern time. I'd like to be surpised.
OK off my soap box. lol

Karen - Agree 100%. I don't want them to get too predictable/overdone.

It does bring up the question then, if not Tim---who? I just get visions of Tim doing it quite honestly---similar to Ed Wood---will all the set scenery moving, etc. However, wouldn't want it to be a parody of DS or the fans will be up in arms. I just don't know who else would be able to capture the essence of DS unless they were a "fan." Having said that, I do understand the point of "Oh, here we go again, another Tim/Johnny film."

I think the screen play would influence how TB would direct DS-just like Shantaram there is alot of episodes to develop into a screen play to show case the "best" parts of the series. :) Anne r

As much as I loved ST, right now, I vote just about anyone over Burton. (Not Gilliam) There aren't too many Gothic modern day vampire movies being made from 70s TV series so there should be a line of people waiting to give this one a try. lol

Please not Gilliam......... I'm with you on that!

Who would direct? I enjoyed T.Cruise's Interview with a Vampire movie. I wonder if that director is available? Neil Jordan. But it seem important to Johnny to have a flexible director. No idea if Neil is flexible and open to opinions or not. The visuals were pretty good on that one. I enjoyed it.
Tim would turn it into more of a mellow Sweeney, or Sleepy Hollow type visual, which may not be right for this film.
I'd rather see a From Hell type of atmosphere.
That said, my kids are waiting for Johnny's next kiddie movie.
