Title: Funny Johnny-related moment at the SAG Awards

SavvyPeppers - January 28, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
At the very beginning of the show, several actors talked about their early beginnings and concluded by saying their names and, "I'm an actor!"

When it got to Jane Krakowski ("30 Rock"), she was talking about how you can get to be anyone, so she said, "I'm Johnny Depp, and I'm an actor!"

That's funny!

I didn't watch, but I just read this report on theenvelope.com:

'4:50 Tough questions on the carpet people. Glenn Close was just asked who she thinks are the greatest actors of our generation. She threw Heath Ledger out there and Johnny Depp and then got flustered. “I’m not good at lists,” she said. “Yes, you are,” said the interviewer. “You are Glenn Close.” Hmm. '

Very nice compliment from Glenn Close-would love her & Johnny to be in a film together---thanks for the extra info. I had heard about the comment at the SAG awards--too funny!

Aww that was cool of her to do that!! (Glenn Close)
I didn't even know they were on tonight, to be honest unless Johnny is nominated I don't care. Well there was the year when Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for Walk The Line, that one I watched.

I am sure Johnny would've liked what Jane did, very cute!

Great Johnny comments all around! And I thought DDL extremely gracious in his acceptance speech.

Thanks Holly for grabbing that clip!

Wow. That's like saying, "Johnny should be here tonight." at the same time as it's praising his ability to play a large variety of charachters. :P

Very cute. Thanks for the tidbit. :thumbsup

Am I right in thinking that there was a lot of surprise for the lack of Sweeney noms and Johnny nomincation for the SAGs but it was due to the screeners not being sent out or sent out too late. Or am I thinking of a different award?

Yes, this was the one.......

Holly, many thanks for the clip. I loved that and thought it very generous of Ms. Krakowski to forego spouting her own name in favor of implying what most people thought: Johnny should have been there as a nominee and is a hero and icon to most working actors. I wonder if it was her idea or if the show's producers planned it as their own tribute to Johnny.

I would not be surprised if it was all her. From what i have heard about Johnny on set working w/ other actors, he is very generous and he is an actor's actor. All who have worked w/ him have only said great things about him.

It was a nice little tribute!

It's interesting because I remember before the SAG noms, reading a couple of posts from SAG voters on imdb(if they were legit) saying how well rec'd the film was the screenings for SAG voters. I was so surprised when it didn't receive noms and then the whole issue of not DVD screeners being sent out was revealed. So, I'm thinking that maybe many members of SAG were also shocked that ST didn't receive any noms as well. Either way, I'm glad she said it----and she's quite funny in 30 Rock, too!
