Johnny deserves to win but remember The Libertine? That was his"best" performance. (go back and read the comments--ya'll remember the flood of praise)
The way I see it, every one of his performances since Edward Scissorhands has been spot-on and award-worthy and some of the best entertainment for my money and time. They all hold up to time, too. And they bear repeating ad infinitum.

I absolutely agree with you. He definitely deserves to get the Oscar or any other award he's been nominated for up until now.

Therefor I would have been really surprised if Johnny didn't get the Oscar nomination. Still it makes me happy that it's final now and I hope that he'll get that Oscar!! :crossfingers

As far as Sweeney Todd is concerned however, the whole nominations are rather disappointing. I haven't seen the film yet (still gotta wait till February 21st until it's released here! *sigh*), but I truly believe from all the clips I've seen so far, that it's an incredible movie. Also I guess it definitely takes much more to make a gory musical than just a "normal" film like Juno....I don't get that nomination at all!!! Oh well...let's be happy for Johnny. And in our heart we all know that Tim would have deserved a nomination equally as much!!!

I am absolutely thrilled for Johnny!! Congratulations! We love you!!

I'll be holding my breath til the show.

I made sure at work that I had the tv in the waiting room on loud enough so I could hear and tried to busy myself with simple work so I could look busy while watching and listening!!!

And when that name was announced and then I had the biggest :D

I am so happy he's gotten this recognition.. this so very well deserved recognition.. his performance was right on!!! .. Now we'll all just have to wait and see!!!!

I'm a little sad there wasnt more recognition for ST though!!

I am really happy (and relieved) that Johnny has been nominated. He so deserves it. But at the same time I am very disappointed that Tim, Helena and the movie itself were not nominated. How could they be snubbed?? This was such a group effort - they all should have been nominated. What happened to our "sweep"? This was not at all what I expected or hoped for (except for Johnny!).
