Bale on Depp's trail in 'Public'
Actors to face off in Michael Mann's 'Enemies'

Christian Bale is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp in Michael Mann's upcoming "Public Enemies."
According to a person familiar with the situation, Bale will play Melvin Purvis, the legendary FBI agent who led the manhunt for John Dillinger. Depp is starring as Dillinger in the pic, which is set up at Universal and is slated to begin production in March (Daily Variety, Dec. 6).

Mann is producing via his Forward Pass banner, with Kevin Misher and his Misher Films. Jane Rosenthal of Tribeca is exec producing.

Thanks for sharing, Donna! I would like for this to happen too. Christian Bale is a pretty good actor and usually chooses interesting projects. It would be nice to see him in a movie with Johnny.

If you saw 3:10 to Yuma- Bale portrayed the character who went through all types of physical and emotional trauma to put Crowe's character on the train to prison and he was fantastic and I feel that JD and CB on screen will make a great film. :) Anne r

This would be an interesting role for him. Purvis doesn't come off as a very admirable character. It'll be interesting to see how Michael Mann has written the part.

Christian Bale? Yep, I like it. :P

I finally saw 3:10TU Anne and I agree---liked Bale better in it than Crowe......would love to see Johnny & him together.....

I watched 3:10 to Yuma last night and have to say, I'm fast becoming a CB fan. I think he'll be able to hold his own against Johnny. Hope this happens.
