Yes, I was surprised at the ending. I had no idea that the 'woman' (trying to avoid spoilers) was who she turned out to be, it came as quite a shock. But, it has that little twist that Johnny so likes...think Secret Window. Like we have mentioned in another question, that will be a very emotionally charged scene, I can't wait to see what Johnny does with it.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect at the end, but one thing I definitely do know is that I didn't expect them to live happily ever after by the sea, I knew something terrible was going to happen, but really just went along for the ride without thinking about it. I guess that's why the ending came as such a surprise to me.

I'm hoping that Tim and Johnny will add a few little extra surprises for us, a little creative touch that is essentially what we expect from a Burton/Depp collaboration.

The first time I saw it I wasn't sure what to expect either. But I figured the beggar had to have something to do with the story as there usually aren't many characters who don't serve a purpose in a theatrical production. LOL

What I was surprised by was how the story ended. I was amazed that Tobias took revenge on Sweeney!

Yes, that was surprising and doesn't he also get blamed for all of the other murders, right? It seemed to me that Johanna would also be killed at one point, which really would have made the story even more tragic than it already was.

I didn't get the beggar woman's importance until ***SPOILER ALERT****

she picks up the doll when she's in Sweeney's shop I believe and starts cradling it----that made me think that she might be Johanna's mother. Up to that point thought, I didn't make the connection.

Really is a tragic story all around.

I think the ending was good-I knew that Todd would probably die but was surprised when it was Tobias-I wished I had paid more attention to the begger woman I had no clue she was the wife of ST. It will be fun to see how the movie ends-Burton's movies usually have a hopeful ending and this play sure does not.

I can't help but wonder what the ending will be like for the movie...it's fitting that Sweeney dies the way he does, but..

I really thought that Mrs. Lovett might be the one, when he went to reject her, as we knew he would.

that might be a fun way to go-have Mrs. Lovett convince Tobias to kill ST-since she is a "lady" she cannot get her hands dirty-Do you think Burton will have ST die in the end?

Oooh, that's a great idea, Mrs. L being the one, then ending up in the mental hospital. Interesting......
