Title: Reading list on JDR for 2008 (updated May 20)
Description: 2 Summer reads added! 2 new ideas!

Karen - December 6, 2007 05:43 AM (GMT)
In January 2008 as planned, we will discuss Mark Salisbury's SWEENEY TODD published by Titan Books. We know the release date has been pushed back so this discussion date will be announced as soon as we know the book it out, but look for the date to be mid Jan 2008

March 03 we will discuss "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34"
Bryan Burrough

Yes, you guessed it! We WILL be adding this book to our discussion list beginning Monday March 03, since the book's been difficult for some to find. This way, we can discuss it as it's being filmed!

June 02 will bring us a more informal, summerish casual discussion of Ellen Poulsen's "Don't Call Us Molls."

July 08 takes us on a new family friendly adventure as we talk about Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." Oh and we'll have some fun as you make your own silent movies and black and white sketched in keeping with the feeling of the book.

Oh yes! Count me in, although I must say it's going to be a rather 'dark' winter, reading-wise! :ph43r:

Looks like you will have to go on without me in January. Amazon say that our Sweeney book isn't going to be available now until the very end of January :banghead

I'm in (and I just verified my Public Library has the Public Enemies book :snoopy

I just ordered it. Will see when it gets here! :) Also as for the Mark Salisbury book I don't have any clue whatsoever when it will arrive here...it normally takes up to a month until they send it off at Amazon. So I'm guessing I'll get it around mid/end January. Most likely you'll be done discussing by then...but time will tell, I guess! :)

Either way I'm already looking forward to reading two new books! :D

Can't find the other thread on this, but I've managed getting my hands on Public Enemies, just in time! :snoopy I'm IN for the book discussion. I'll start reading...as fast as I can. :writing

Same here! :) I ordered the book such a long time ago, but it took the bookstore ages to get it to me. I hope I'll manage to finish reading it until the discussion starts...

Since I've heard this same thing from so many of you, I look to start the discussion on Monday, March 3.

Hopefully I'll remember it by then-lol! That's fine with me---I'm almost finished with the book and found it more interesting once I got to the main part about Dillinger and gang---I wonder why? Looking forward to the discussion.....

Where's the Caliber stuff listed? I just got my hands on COVER A !!!
The comic shop said they are more popular and generally in demand.
THey signed me up for the whole series. :)

Does anyone know if other issues like #2, #3 coming up are going to be more expensive?
Maybe I'll ask the comic shop guy...

I'm going to find that Inventions book today too, I suppose it's a good day for a liesurely coffee out! woohoo

The Caliber stuff is here in the Caliber forum:

They are scarce in my city, so please do let us know what you find out about price.

Since they are hard to locate in a lot of areas and since they are also very short, we may wait until #2 and #3 are out before we discuss it.

Thanks for the link.

Yes, volume 2 and such will cost more, as is common with comic books. Other Dark Horse or Marvel comics are about $3 each.

Ok then, coming back in the car, I had Caliber AND Invention of Hugo .... me and my daughter had to wait in the car so I took a nap, and said she could start to read Hugo if she wanted... so....like a good young :captainjack ...she picks up...Caliber! Took her half an hour, going back and forth with it...to get that one person is kind of 'helping' both sides.

On the other hand, I've 'read' the first 120 pages of Hugo in about 20 minutes. It's quite a nice read ! :writing

Can't wait to read Caliber. Thanks for the info.

Hugo is a very special book, almost like a graphic novel of sorts.
