It was a picture of a round metal button, like we used to wear on our Mork suspenders (*L*), but it wasn't appropriate for Karen's MySpace. I don't like having my actual photo on MySpace, so I was using that instead.

I just started with MySpace 7 days ago because of the contest to have a ST screening for you and 50 of your closest friends ( :lol: )...you had to have a MySpace page to enter, so... The younger women I work with find it hilarious. *shrug* A broad's gotta do what a broad's gotta do!

I think I added Karen as a friend if I did it correctly, but some guy named Tom also shows up as one of my friends----who the heck is Tom? :huh:

Okay Karen...



Click on the "home" link in the upper left corner. Choose Classic View (under all the home, invite, browse, etc. links on the right.

Once you're in Classic View look on the left, under your picture (where the eyeball is on mine). The second box down has 4 links. Inbox, Sent, Friend Requests and Bulletin. Try Inbox first. It should be loaded with requests from us to be added to your page.

If not, go to whatever email account you used when setting up MySpace, and you'll have all of our requests there. You just have to choose whether to allow each person to be added or not.



Edited to say: yeah, Tom's like your customer service or help link on MySpace.

And 2 of my cousins & their friend came to visit, which was wonderful, but yesterday afternoon we found out another cousin had fallen off his roof hanging Christmas lights Saturday and is badly injured and in ICU. :(

I think it's a work in progress nurse. I know for me MySpace is a bit overwhelming if you're not familiar with it.

So sorry to hear about your cousin's fall!

Once you've approved a "friend" they can comment at will, I believe, unless you guard against that. Let me go refresh my memory on how to do that.

That's another reason I asked if the site is PG-13...unfortunately you have no control over comments and I've seen some that are very raw.

Okay...next to your picture (my eyeball) choose "account settings".

Then choose "spam".

First there are "Spam Presets"

Then, under that, are "messages', "friend requests" and "comments". I would recommend in the "comments" section checking the "Require approval before comments are posted ".

Also, on that page, you can require people to know a specific thing (your last name or email address) to even ask to join as a friend. That might be too unwieldy for you. I don't know.

And the CAPTCHA thing helps prevent automated spammers.
