AVAST-ly superior home, me hearties!
Splashing out ... Johnny
This luxury West Country pile has been snapped up by Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP.
The actor, 44, has splashed out a reported £1.3million for the 150-year-old Somerset mansion.
He is now busy renovating the old hunting lodge, including building a helipad, swimming pool and tennis court.
Johnny, who also has pads in France and America and a 45-acre Bahamas island, will live there with French actress partner VANESSA PARADIS, 34, and their two kids.
A source said: “He’s made regular trips overseeing the work.”
The renovations are said to be costing Johnny £2.5million. Sounds like a shipload of doubloons.

This rumor of Johnny buying a house in Somerset has been floating around for awhile. I'm not sure this report is accurate. Maybe our UK :jdr members can say how reliable the Sun is as a factual newspaper.
Depputante - November 9, 2007 07:50 AM (GMT)
OOOH! I 'm glad I stayed up late!
I've been hearing of this Somerset location off and on for a while!
Nice photo!
And a Hellipad! Cool ! :)
I hope we get more confirmations in the coming days.

I would say the Sun is about 10% reliable on anything involving celebrities.
Nope, I don't believe this either. I suspect one of their journalists had a quiet day and dug up this story from last year, then added a picture.
Another Time will Tell.

So, please tell me, who do you class as a reliable source for celebrity news. There are so many out there and most of the time they are all copying each other.
Your comments, please, anyone.

This is an old rumor, and it has been pointed out, the publisher of this "news" has been questionable in the past about what stories they run. I am moving this to "time will tell" . I'm not saying it's not true, I'm saying that time will tell if it is or isn't. We'll have to wait and see.
To Deckhand: It's hard to pin point what makes a reliable news source, we've discussed before about news papers, web sites etc over the years and I think all we can do is step back and have a look at what else they are publishing. If it's generally of the sensational nature and things that they've published in the past have not turned out to be true, then we have to wonder. Also, people who live in the country where these varied publications are from have a good sense of what they publish on a daily basis. Those of us in the US know the ones here to question as they seem to publish some untruths, just as those in the UK are more familiar with their publications and I am sure you know which ones to believe in your country as opposed to the ones to question.
I guess if/when we see Johnny coming and going then we can move this back to the "news" area. lol TIme will tell.

Its hard to know what to believe anymore. :banghead Somebodys gettinga nice place.
deppfan4ever - November 9, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
The helipad thing has me not believing this for some reason maybe due to the fact that Johnny does not like to fly all that well. I mean this is a man that won't take a seaplane to his island for that reason. He admitted to that on Letterman last year. A helicopter is a lot smaller than a private jet or even a seaplane. As Karen said, time will tell.

Actually the helipad bit made the story seem more legit for me, as it would be an easy way to get in and out without a lot of hoopla along the road. In any case, somebody's footing the bill for major renovations to this lovely spot. I hope it's Johnny simply so we (and the tabloid press in the UK) can put all further speculation to rest!

I wonder what people used to hunt at this location. Maybe foxes or quail perhaps?

Here's an article about the purchase that also doubts the Sun's credibility.
http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2007/11/j...rumor-mill.htmlWhoever owns the place, it sure is gorgeous!!

Actually I could see this happening. He does spend a lot of time in England-I can't believe he hasn't already bought a place.
Of course it's possible he did buy this when the rumor first started but he's had to do some renovations.
He's got the money after all-good grief. :shistle

Thank you Karen and everyone for all your comments. As you say time will tell.
I have seen a few more articles relating to this, as I am sure you have, so, I will now put it to rest. lol
Thanks again

It is a beautiful place. One thing about these harmless rumors (if it is a rumor) is it does keep Johnny in the news although I'm sure Johnny's fans in Somerset were excited when this first came out. I would have hired on as one of the crew to help renovate LOL!!

I dont really believe this article. The sun are always making stuff up, out of all the tabloids in england this one is definatly the lowest in the pecking order. not very reliable at all. Although i wouldn't be surprised if he did buy property in england, he does seem to spend a lot of time here and has said he likes it. And there has been loads of rumours that he already owns houses here, apparaant;y in bath and other places. If he was going to buy a place in england i would imagine it to be a more tradition maybe smaller than this house. I not sure why but that what i would imagine him to buy!
I hope he does buy in england one day though because it may increase my chances of seeing him! Its quite a small country so im bound to bump into him, right?!!
:thumbsup

Absolutely!! Good luck with that!
I went to college in Tampa, FL in the mid-1980s and I've often wondered if I might have seen The Kids playing in one of the many bars that I went to (instead of studying!)
But back to the topic, I imagine he probably owns lots of properties all around the US and Europe that we will never know of . This latest rumored purchase could certainly be true, time will tell. Even the worst tabloid gets something right once in a while!

I think I figured out the answer to my question in an earlier post. It looks like maybe what they used to hunt at this location were stags.
Looks like an absolutely gorgeous location, with lots of cultural history in the area. You can check out some beautiful photos in the nearby community at:

Another article mentioning about the rumor.
http://www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/dis...ours_untrue.phpDepp rumours untrue
By Laura Thorpe
THERE is no truth in rumours about Hollywood heart-throb Johnny Depp moving to the area, according to his agent.
Following another upsurge in speculation that the Pirates of the Caribbean Star had brought a house in Broomfield on the Quantocks, the County Gazette got in touch with his Beverley Hills agent, Robin Baum.
When asked whether Mr Depp had purchased the £2million-plus Timbercombe House she said: "There is no truth to these reports."
No doubt this news will leave many fans disappointed, but many claim they have seen him in the area.
Last week Sue Honeyball of Manor Farm horse trekking centre and neighbour to Timbercombe House said one of her trekkers had seen him in the area.

I've just been clearing rubbish from my inbox, and came across this alert, yep, it's a month old...shows how long it is since I had a clean up. :D
Anyway, it is further details of the home that Johnny isn't buying, so I thought I'd post it.
