Title: DS Discussion #7 What about the movie?

What would you like to see happen in the movie version? Use the classic plotlines? Which characters? New plots? Got a brilliant idea?

Not sure what everyone will say but, but I'd like to be Josette, and be bitten, sucked, and forever Barnabas' bride ! :thud

Barnabas might end up with alot of brides by the end of the movie.
"Brides of Barnabas" ~Classic Gothic Thriller, anyone?

(Please take into account that I've only seen the 1st season of the show and haven't seen the movies)

From what I've read, later in the series there were werewolves, other vamps, a Frankenstein's monster-type character, zombies, voodoo and I don't know what all else. I'd prefer it if that was left out (we had VanHelsing), and concentrate primarily on Barnabas and his interactions with the Collins family.

I'd like for it to go one of two ways:

1. Barnabas embraces his vamp nature and wreaks havoc on Collinsport, escaping capture at the end of the film. No remorse, no regrets...just a guy at a really great buffet. Plenty of sequel opportunities there.

or

2. A full story arc where we learn the origins of his "turning", see him angry and resentful in the beginning, laying waste to humans out of rage, but over the centuries mellowing, until present-day, when he has found alternative feeding methods and is on the verge of being cured. He would meet a woman he loves more than any ever, is cured, and they live happily ever after. No sequel possibilities unless in the final frames a fang comes out (maybe on the honeymoon) leaving us to believe the "cure" didn't really take.

I like both those clever ideas, Becca. I definite want to see a full character arc, but some of the peripheral characters do not need to be there.
focus on Barnabas, Barnabas, Barnabas. Did I mention Barnabas?
I want his full history laid out.
I would prefer the classic plotline, but with the dialogue tightened up - alot.

That love triangle and his curse was what drew us all into the story in the first place. Do we really need sequels? Just in case, leave that little opening....

I like the ideas mentioned so far. I too would like to see the Barnabas story--more about his background, how he became a vampire and deal with the Maggie/Josette story. Since there were so many episodes, does anyone think that they will focus on a few storylines and spread them over a few films?

It sounds like you all just want more Barnabas!!

I wish you'd mentioned Barnabas amp! :P

I feel the same way - it's the difference in mediums. It's okay to drag the story line out in a serial, but you're absolutely right...it should be tightened up for the movie.

Well, ya know, I'm always hoping for more opportunities to see Johnny, so sequels are cool with me.

Donna - I think you're right about focusing on just a few story lines. I would hope they'd spread them out over multiple movies, but I kind of think that depends on how attached Johnny is to the character.

He's been pretty open about how much he likes Captain Jack, and therefore would be willing to play him more. It would be fantastic if he felt the same way about Barnabas!

Oh, Depp, me too!

:upinsmoke

Yeah, I'd volunteer to be Josette in a heartbeat! (heartbeat...heh, heh, heh)

Crimeney! I've got to crawl off to the gutter now. Where's the rum gone?

*Edited to respond to Karen*

Ummmm-speaking only for myself...YEAH! And no. Yes I want Victoria and Maggie/Josette in there. And I think Steve Buscemi (sp?) is brilliant for Willie, because a "Renfield" is a must and he just seems like the perfect fit. But the more Johnny/Barnabas there is the happier I am! I'm selfish and I admit it. All Johnny all the time! Well, yes, plot is important. I'm conflicted. I want a good story, but I want maximum Johnny. I'm at the point now where I would dang near shell out $8 to watch him read his shopping list on film! But it's such a great show, I want it to be lovingly rendered on the big screen.

I want them to begin in Martinique--tell about those "nights in white satin, never reaching the end"--how Barnabas and Angelique made hay while Josette tippy-toed off to Paris. I want to see Josette and Aunt Natalie fleeing Paris just in time from the mob during the French Revolution. ( JD lives in France, so this should be right in his neighborhood. ) Then, come back to Maine, and begin the havoc from there. A little side-tip into the future, wouldn't hurt...opening up the possibility for a sequel or two or three. I so want to see those beaches of Martinique, beside a palm, under the moonlight....Barnabas sans the starchiness of his Puritan upbringing.
