Joanie made us this blend when the news was first announced!

What we all can't help but wonder and what we are all excited about is what the multi talented and always brilliant Mr. Depp will do this Barnabas Collins.

Especially since we've read that he's wanted to tackle this project for years!

The question...what are we looking to see from Johnny? What has you most excited about this project?

EVERYTHING about this project has me excited!

His high cheekbones and facial structure lend themselves to the part, in my opinion. I think he'll bring an emotional complexity to the role. Once again he's playing an "outsider", which is the type of role he prefers. I think he'll probably deeply explore Barnabas' conflict, but I also think, especially given what we've seen of ST, that he could also bring a frightening intensity to any "feeding" scenes. I wouldn't be surprised to be more moved by Barnabas' plight through Johnny's performance.

And, naturally, I'm thinking it will be incredibly hot!

I'm 51.(hence the screen name) There I said it! I came home everyday after school to watch DS with my bestfriend Martha Jo.* Barnabas Collins was so interesting that it wasn't much fun when he wasn't the center of an episode. There was an opportunity for alot of character development that was never done. I think they were slaves to the plotline.

I don't have a vision of what I would like JD to do. I am hoping that he would create a totally new Barnabas like he did with Willy Wonka. At the same time keep the best of the original. I do think the part requires a delicate touch of not taking it tooooo seriously.

*Once after school we were under a tornado warning, we were insturcted to go outside and lay down in an irrigation ditch . Waiting for it to pass all we were worried about was missing DS.

You took the words right out of my brain, wwjdd!

The quick change from polite society gentleman to ravenous vampire to morose lover will be titillating to say the least.

Ben Cross eat your heart out.

I'm really surprised that just a handful of us are getting in on these discussions - I thought these threads would be packed!

Becca, I think so much is happening right now, some people may be occupied elsewhere-lol. I just came home from work and this thread was on page 2 of my Assistant page, so it's taken me awhile to find it. Anyway, as with any role Johnny takes, he'll put his stamp on it. I agree with all that's been said and even though Barnabas has his "bad" side, I'm sure he will be able to create empathy from the viewer in his portrayal.

We all know that he we'll be in a treat for sure!

Everyone has been focused on Sweeney Todd. I debated postponing the rest of this discussion until next Monday. People log on and go directly to any Sweeney news and especially the thread where thoughts and memories are still be posted by the people who screened it.

I guess I'm just starving for any and all Johnny discussions.

I'll go ahead and post my Ed Wood/Dark Shadows moment now.

When Maggie had run off to the cemetery the first time and they were out looking for her, there's a scene when Vicky sees Maggies shoe, rushes over to it and pivots on one foot as she crouches down to pick up the shoe.

And the Astro-Turf or whatever they were using for grass wrinkled right up under her foot! I had to stop the dvd I was laughing so hard.

That is a wonderful Ed Wood moment! I'll bump that sort of discussion for tomorrow so everyone can share what they've noticed. LOL

*bashful* Aw, shucks.

It was just so endearing to me. Working within the constraints of live TV must have been so difficult. I have a great deal of respect for actors who are willing to put themselves out there for that.

 ya, that's the one I picked out to answer question/point #4! the camera zoomed right in on it, too! "Cut! Perfect! Let's go on to scene number 352"

Johnny, I think will bring the perfect intensity to the role of Barnabus. Whatever the man is required to do he can. He will also make Barnabus sexual, but benevolent, scary and most of all...his!!

nurseanne8 - October 28, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Depp will make us feel sympathy for Barnabas' plight in life but will also let the evil parts of Barnabas come alive on the screen-after doing ST Depp will add more depth to the Barnabas character plus he is good to look at. :upinsmoke
