Title: Nick Hornby comments about A LONG WAY DOWN

This is part of a question and answer chat session that Nick Hornby did, the remainder can be found here: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=676349

Q: Joe of Green Bay - Mr. Hornby, one of my favorite books is your "A Long Way Down." I have heard that a movie based on the film is in the works with Johnny Depp producing (among others). Is there any truth to this?

A: Nick Hornby - Some truth. Johnny Depp's company bought the movie rights, and DV DeVincentis, who also adapted High Fidelity, is writing the screenplay. I have no idea whether the movie will ever get made, however. Right now the Hollywood studios are panicking about the impending writers' and actors' strikes, and as a consequence they are not interested in anything that isn't ready to go.

Thanks, Karen. This illustrates the hidden casualties of the strike threat. It must be terribly frustrating for so many in similar positions.

That's too bad---enjoyed the book. I'm hoping it will get made some day.

Karen I'm keeping my :crossfingers , too. The local news last night said the Writer's had their strike authorization vote that night, 10/18, and the results would be announced today.
