This is part of a question and answer chat session that Nick Hornby did, the remainder can be found here:
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=676349Q: Joe of Green Bay - Mr. Hornby, one of my favorite books is your "A Long Way Down." I have heard that a movie based on the film is in the works with Johnny Depp producing (among others). Is there any truth to this?
A: Nick Hornby - Some truth. Johnny Depp's company bought the movie rights, and DV DeVincentis, who also adapted High Fidelity, is writing the screenplay. I have no idea whether the movie will ever get made, however. Right now the Hollywood studios are panicking about the impending writers' and actors' strikes, and as a consequence they are not interested in anything that isn't ready to go.
