shadowdog - September 23, 2007 02:06 PM (GMT)
I came across this article on Mira Nair. Near the bottom it mentions that Helena has been cast in the movie. I hadn't heard this before????

I cant say I've heard anything either.. just did some googling and there are some mentions stating it as being rumoured. And then with her expecting... hmmmmm
Guess we'll just have to wait and see

I'm wondering if they got Shantaram and Sweeney confused, maybe?
I guess time will tell as usual.

I've seen references to both movies in the same articles I found while googling

Yes, I've read both those names in articles early on when Shantaram was first announced. As far as we know, there have only been two members of the cast confirmed--Johnny and the Indian actor(sorry, his name escapes me at the moment). I doubt Helena would be involved since her baby is due in December. However, thanks for finding this article, true or not, it's great to see some information about Shantaram! :)

I believe at some point in time Emily Watson's name was aligned with Shantaram too, but it seemed to be a mistake from the Corpse Bride days. LOL I don't think this has much credibility. ;)

I can't see Helena doing Shantaram.
Who was supposed to play Kavita? I thought her name was on IMDB, but now I dont' see it anymore.

I don't take this seriously either. I think there's been some confusion over casting for Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd and Shantaram.
Things get lost in translation sometimes! :D

They may have gotten that info from the wikipedia page (which I think is wrong in this case - I think it's displaying cast information that was on imdb when it was still Peter Weir slated to direct):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantaram_%28film%29Bipasha Basu is supposed to have been cast as Kavita. I don't know why imdb has taken her down because I thought that was confirmed (it's not been covered by the media much, but I've heard it from more than one source). They've also put "rumoured" by Amitabh Bachchan which cannot possibly be true as both Mira Nair and Mr Bachchan have confirmed that he's taking part in the film.
