Title: Vanessa's CD/Tour
Description: **Reporting in from the concert, pg 2**
herestoyou - September 2, 2007 11:57 PM (GMT)
While we're on pins/needles waiting for STodd info. and the VFF on 9/5, Vanessa is busy promoting her CD in Europe. If you go to the link below and click on "Vanessa Paradis: News" you will get to the interviews/pics.
http://www.vanessaparadis.info/Talk/ there are several scan from magazines, some beautiful photos, and some translations of interviews she's done in magazines as well. There are a couple of Johnny mentions, but mainly it involves her CD. One interesting tidbit, on her CD is a song titiled "Jackadie" (sp?) in which Jack is actually singing a little bit in the background. She stated that since her Bliss CD had a song with LRose, this time she wanted one for Jack.
This is a nice Johnny mention in the September Tetu magazine interview with Vaness:
Thanks to ShoOk at VanessaParadis in Translation site for the translation:

And it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable that your man occupies the fantasy of many gay men? I can't say anything more than it doesn't surprise me! I don't understand how gay men can't keep their eyes off of him! (laughs) [that's what I understood of the sentence.]. He's so beautiful, so special, so amazing... I can understand that he pleases the ladies just asmuch as the men!
What do you think of , when you see him walking around in those girly pants, in Pirates ? I have nothing but admiration. I'm very impressed with the man himself, but also with the actor inside of him. You all know that he doesn't take on tailor-made roles.. the majority of what you see on the screen is his creation. Everyone thinks that Pirates is such a great film, now that it's made millions of dollars.. but the first few weeks of filming were really difficult for Johnny. Everyone gawked as if he was some kind of raging lunatic. He told me that he was sure he would be fired. With all the partners and producers from Disney, it wasn't easy. But all he needed was courage. If I may say this, and if you'd like to see a role of creation from my partner, I would suggest the Julian Schnabel film "Before Night Falls" [editors note: Before Night Falls was released in 2001, but is available on DVD]. Here, Johnny plays a transvestite, and he does an astounding job. And, for me, I get to see what our daughter will look like in 30 years. (laughs) |

Very much enjoyed reading this...especially this line made me laugh so hard just now:
"And, for me, I get to see what our daughter will look like in 30 years."
Thanks for passing this along!

Thanks for the info Donna! Looks like she'll be busy too! LOL
Does anyone know if Tetu is a gay publication? It has to be from the questions asked and her answers. lol
herestoyou - September 3, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
Yes, Karen, it is a gay publication--forgot to put that in my post! Yes, apparently she's in every magazine and is doing TV now as well. I must say, she has some fit body by the photos I've seen.......
Arnelle--it could be the translation "girly pants" came through incorrectly----the article is in French at the site-----

Thats OK Donna...those just weren't the usual run-of-the-mill questions and answers. LOL
Parlez - September 3, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Thank you for this interview snippet! It's good to be reminded of how hard it was to convince the Disney suits to accept Johnny's Captain Jack. It's all history now, but back then it's so incredible to think Johnny actually believed he was going to be fired from the project, which is probably true! We are lucky..very, very lucky!

I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing, Donna! :D

Aww that article was very cute to read. Vanessa's a great person anyway. Actually I've got a new interview with her in the Italian vanity fair magazine, but since I don't speak Italian I don't actually know what it says! *lol* Nice pictures of her inside too, though. :) If you like - and if this is allowed - I could try to scan if for you guys, so that you can read the interview/look at the pictures too.
Oh and I'll be attending her concert here in Switzerland on the 30th November. I seriously can't wait. It's gonna be great I'm sure. After all it's really been a while since she toured last. :)

Amy, I'd love to see scans of the article. And lucky you to be able to get to one of the concerts! They sound like they've been wonderful so far. Here's the translation of the Italian VF article thanks in part to AngieDee on the VIT site:

After 7 years of silence, she returns with a new disc. The sexiest ex-Lolita of France, captured by the sexiest ex-pirate of Hollywood, tells us what occurs on their deserted in the Caribbean. Curious to enter the Depp house?
by Carla Bardelli, in Vanity Fair n. 39/2007
How was the album born? In bits of time, it was composed in many pieces, corresponding to many adventures, changing with life, with country, the birth of two children, some films… And it’s also a story of friendship: such as between me and M (Mathieu Chédid, director and a composer, but also guitarist and singer with whom Vanessa has duets in this album).
Is it still the same with Johnny as it was in the beginning? Isn't it a bit boring to be with one man for years and years? There are couples that last forever, and for us it might be the same. But I want to add that it's more difficult to live like us, than to break up after just one week.
At the start of your musical career in France you were very famous. what remains to Vanessa of this mythical Paradis? The most beautiful part of this experience; I forgot the rest. I know when to leave concerns behind. So many times in those years I saw magazines with my face on cover and many times I did not even open it for the fear that my day would be damaged because of it.
You lived in the America of Bush, during the time that the relationship between France and America was difficult. You did not have any problems? Nobody ever called me "dirty French" But the tensions were in the air. But it's easy to live like me in a civil Hollywood that like a micro-society made up of Americans who are cultured and francophiles, who have children at the French school with mine. It's a different matter living with the rest of the country. I have friends who came from France and now live in America who told me stories of hostility and insults.
And on your deserted island of Caraibe how do you live? I won't tell you; that's our secret.
Be nice...... For two pantouflard [lazy stay-at-homes] like Johnny and me to be there is the maximum of life. When in front of you you have only the horizon, it's clear that you do not become nervous any more because the coffee machine does not function anymore. The life becomes larger, takes on incredible proportions. The true largeness is in feeling ourselves small: I never felt myself so humble as when we are on the Island ". |

The 1st CD of V.P for 6 years - and the idol POP is always worthy of adoration.
[It is very necessary that it has the quality of sublime individuality. The singer and French actress already carries the name of the garden of Paradise, her new album Divine idylle underlines the divine side in its title, and her longstanding companion Johnny Depp seems to love it. It is enough to have a quick look of the portrait which he made of her for the case of her new CD, on that he represents Vanessa Paradis as such an angel.
" First, he just painted this portrait ", tells the 34-year-old young woman. " Exactly such as you see it on the case, but without gold in hair and bottom. Then I asked him if I could use it for my album. As he knows how much I appreciate Gustav Klimt, he topped up gold leaves there. It represents me nicer that I am in reality. Perhaps that it is because he loves me. " She laughs and adds after a short pause: " At least, I hope ". The relation between ancient lolita of music French pop and the rebel of Hollywood, in whom they saw no future, lasts now for 10 years. Their daughter Lily-Rose has 8 years now and their 5-year-old son Jack. They organize their life, between West - Hollywood and the south of France, according to their obligations While Vanessa shot her last film, The Key, which goes out in December on the French screens, Johnny was in France with the children. During work on Divinidylle, the bulk of the family had to stay in Los angeles and Vanessa undertook short stays in Paris for recording. That would be the reason why Johnny, which on her previous album Bliss (2000) played the guitar, is not on the album this time. But she explains that he really has contributed to the origin of Divinidylle: " He is the 1st which I ask for his opinion. It is he that I want to impress. I ask him for help, ask for advice. For instance, he helped me to transform the song Jackadi into waltz ".
Besides this waltz, in the introduction of which their son Jack not only talks he sings, she digs into all possible styles on her new album: pop, reggae, disco music, and soul. The title song, Divine Idylle, begins style Motown with beat (?) before it evolves finally in a Rock n Roll piece. It casts facets in a very relaxed way and with a voice in mutiples. " I was not afraid of the microphone, I simply plunged into my job without intellectualizing it. It was as a jump in parachute which is really to savour ".
It made the eighties (?) since the end when she had charmed all Europe with her small voice of a child on the tv with Joe the taxi. Then Follows eventful years, collaboration with S. Gainsbourg and Lenny Kravitz, successes as actress, until she throws herself with Johnny Depp. But what is its comprehension of one " divine idylle " It is to be happy and at the same time to be aware of it. These are the instants when I think: Ah! It is so good! It depends in no way on the place where they are. " |

Glad to know the reasoning behind why Johnny wasn't able to play guitar on her CD this time. I know he was incredibly busy, but that's great to know how he contributed to the song "Jackadi." Thanks for the article, Donna!

Thanks for finding that and sharing it, Donna. I love the last couple of sentences best. To be happy and at the same time be aware of it---------now that's something to strive for. Too many of us just take it for granted, don't we? She impresses me.

Parlez - October 27, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
I agree with you, Rose, the last few lines say it all.
I also loved the little timeline bit, ending "until she throws herself with Johnny Depp".
That would start anyone on a 'Divine Idylle' wouldn't it? :P
I'm enjoying getting to know Vanessa through reading things like this....
She comes across as intelligent, creative, charming, and grateful ~ admirable qualities all!

So I got home a couple of hours ago from Geneva, where I attended Vanessa's concert yesterday evening. So I thought I'd share with you some of the impressions I had of the concert.
We arrived in Geneva around 5 pm after a 2.30 hour drive, which is rather long for Switzerland, actually! *g* When we arrived at the venue, there were already quite some people waiting outside, but we still decided to go and have something to eat first. We got back around 6.30 pm, just half an hour before doors would open. Waiting for the doors to open we realized rather quickly that we most likely were the only people from the german speaking part of Switzerland. Everyone else spoke French, and they definitely secretly stared at us from time to time, most likely wondering what the hell we were doing here. *lol* The same happened once we got inside, and I wanted to buy a keychain kinda thing, but didn't have a clue at all, how to say that in French. So I just pointed at the keychain and said that "I'd like to have that" in very broken French. So again they must have thought, what the hell are they doing at a French concert?! *lol* Anyway, after my merchandise shopping we waited for the concert to start. The supporting act got on stage around 8.30 pm. It was two guys and their band was called "Ours". They really played some nice tunes, but we were eagerly anticipating Vanessa of course. She hit the stage around 9.15 pm and then played with her band till 11.30 pm. And OMG, she was just an absolute gem! I'm being serious, I really liked her music before of course, but actually being able to see her live and seeing her perform was just one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. She seemed so happy while performing, I've never seen anyone quite like it. It instantly sucked everyone in. And everything Vanessa did and said was absolutely genuine. Simply honest. And trust me, I'm not just saying all this because she is Johnny's girlfriend. I really can see now why he adores her that much...'cause, well, she simply is adorable.
So to end my little review, I simply gotta say, that I adored every little minute of this concert. It most likely was even the best concert I ever attended, and I attended quite a lot already. If I ever get the chance again to see Vanessa perform live I'll definitely try everything I can to attend the concert. So I can only suggest you do the same, if you ever have the chance to. You definitely won't be disappointed.
BTW, I also took some pics (very bad ones, though), but I don't actually know whether I'm allowed to put them online. If I am however, and you'd like to see them please let me know. :)
herestoyou - December 1, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
Amy so glad you were able to see her live. It sounds like you had a great time shopping and all! I've seen some little clips of her concert and it looks like she puts on a great show.

So here are some of the pictures. Actually these are the best pics, so you can imagine what the others looked like... My camera really sucks! *g* Oh well, at least it gives you some kind of impression. Also I uploaded a little clip. It's equally as bad as the pics, but you might still like it. :) (If the clip is not allowed please let me know. I think since it's only an excerpt it shouldn't infringe copyrights, but then again, I'm never sure about that!).

How lovely! Thanks for the report, pics, and video! You did a great job, Amy! I'm glad to hear you had such a marvelous time. I got a kick out of the language issue amongst your fellow concert-goers ~ I'd deppinately get some strange looks with only my English to get me by! But music is universal, right? And apparently so is Vanessa's appeal! :)

I really like Vanessa's music - I heard her first because of her relationship with Johnny, but have truly bacome a Vanessa fan as well.
