Title: Johnny WAS at the El Cap Midnight show!!!!!
Description: From Terry Rossio's blog
Karen - August 23, 2007 12:22 AM (GMT)
OK we were there, opening day...and so was Johnny!!!!!! How did we miss him? Terry writes about this in today's blog.
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...logID=302355600Johnny Depp and his wife Vanessa join us this year for dinner, and afterwards we head over for the midnight showing at the El Capitan. So, if any of you out there reading were watching At World's End there that night, opening night, you might not have noticed, but Johnny Depp, Gore, and Bruckheimer were there in the theater with you.
FANtasticJD - August 23, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
HOLY COW!!! I heard that Terry was there as some folks talked with him. But Johnny??? Why oh why couldn't they have gotten him/them on stage? sigh. Well, at least I can say that I went to the movies with Johnny Depp! And no wonder the staff at the El Cap were excited and buzzing around beforehand. They must have some hidden VIP seating area. Otherwise someone would have noticed them.

 then bursts into laughter... ROFL...ha ha ha....I think y'all need a
"This is what Johnny looks like TODAY" thread.
Something's amiss when fans don't recognize him! :ph43r: :shistle
Better go check yer photos!

WOW!! woohoo How incredible! I'm excited about it and I wasn't even there. That's fantastic for those of you who were there, even if you didn't know about it at the time!

That would be exactly my response, FAN! :thumbsup
Karen - August 23, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
I am betting that they snuck them in after the show had started and put him in the middle of the others so no one on either side of him was an average theater goer that night. Shoot, they could have been behind us for all we know...lol
ivycastle - August 23, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
I'm kicking myself for not going!!!!!

My thoughts exactly!

I can't believe he was in the theater with us and we didn't even know it. :thud

What fun----very interesting blog, lots of fun tidbits there! Those of you there at the El Cap didn't recognize Johnny as he was probably dressed as Capt. Jack--------and we know how many Capt. Jacks were there!
Still jealous though that I can't say I went to the movies with Johnny!

Well, ya know, the thought has crossed my mind too.
Johnny doesn't like looking at himself on the big screen,
and if he didn't make an appearance on stage, why bother going?
I guess he had a little business to do with other cast members.

Now i wasn't there so i don't know what happened, but i can't see why Terry would say that if it's not true :ph43r:

to what point and purpose would Terry have to lie about this?
IMHO - I think Johnny and Vanessa are out and about WAY more than any of us realizes - he is brilliant at becoming someone else on screen, why not do it at other times as well. Quite frankly, with a few exceptions (yacht pictures, for example) I think we see Johnny when he wants us to see him, not every time he steps foot off of his property.
Of course, I could be completely off base (rum induced philosophical idea, perhaps?) ;)
Karen - August 23, 2007 01:01 PM (GMT)
I don't think Terry Rossio would lie. I don't think they were there for the entire show, but he has said it's his habit to visit several theaters opening day.

Pity I did not go to the Midnight showing :(
That is so wonderful! Would love to see Johnny's reaction to Captain jack.

We lingered outside afterward waiting for our whole group to meet for quite a while. IF anyone had seen him it would have been all over the theater. No one saw him.

OMG I can't believe this now I really wish I was there, well now for the people that did go you can say you have been to the movies with Johnny Depp!
Now I envy you! :ph43r:
cabungirl - August 23, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
During the marathon @ lunch I greeted Jack Davenport as he was entering a back entrance of the building and I noticed upstairs in the balcony where we were sitting there are rooms on each side with black curtains that were guarded by employees. Maybe JD and crew were hiding out in there. I am bummed that I couldn't stay for the midnight show. :(

| I hang back in Johnny's trailer. Everyone else leaves and Johnny kind of looks at me. What else to say? I blurt out, "I have a picture of a horse." Right away he shoots back "Would you like to be alone?" |

What a shame that no one knew that he was there.
Maybe they felt it was for the best. For anyone here
who was able to attend I'm sure you had a great time
anyway. woohoo
I am slightly jealous that all of the big events are on
the west coast. :banghead
I enjoy reading Terry's blogs on Myspace. He sounds
like a delightful guy.
Hibblette - August 24, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
I think Johnny is seen when Johnny wants to be seen.
But yea-he probably was seated in a "special place" after the film started. No one would know-and then there maybe hidden alcoves in a theatre. A long time ago Theatre had "alcoves" or balcony seatings and certain patrons could come and go without being seen.
I don't find it hard to believe that a theatre like the El Capitan would have such a setup-after all it is a premiere Theatre.
Karen - August 24, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
I believe the El Cap was build in 1926? by a man who partnered with Sid Grauman, of course Grauman's Chinese is across the street. Best I remember the El Capitan was a theater that housed live plays and then movies. So it very well could have private areas. Or they just could have smuggled him in. LOL
Theresa - August 24, 2007 07:41 AM (GMT)
I was seated in the balcony for both the midnight show and the marathon and now that you mention it cabungirl, I do remember seeing some black curtains off to the side with employees standing in front. That very well could have been a hidden area where they were hiding out. :ph43r:

LoL Karen!
Speaking of smuggling people in, when we were lined up outside the theatre before the marathon one of the entertainers saw my hoop skirt and asked "You wouldn't be trying to smuggle in any extra pirates under there would you?"

On another site someone mentioned seeing a comment on a blog some time ago that Johnny and company arrived at the theater 45 minutes late. Given the level of excitement shown by the staff at the El Cap that night, and all their secretive whispering, I wouldn't be surprised if he was expected to kick off the midnight show. With his late arrival, they had to 'make do' with the lovely Naomie Harris. I only hope they stayed long enough to see/hear the amazing reception the film got that night. I'm sure they left before the end, though, to avoid being seen.

I bet you are right Fan, the friend I was with left for the rest room during the film and returned saying that the concession people were all giggly and whispering and the word "he" or "him" was being thrown about...until they saw her in the lobby.
We thought that, because the film had already started that he might come out at the end and thank us for being there. But as we know, nothing ever happened. And no one saw him. :(
I am not much for speculation, LOL BUT I can't help but wonder....hmm I wonder what IF a set up for the intro at the midnight show would have been Naomie Harris on stage ( as she did do) quoting her end line from DMC...about would you go to the ends of the eart' to bring back witty Jack? Which know she she did. Then what *if* witty Jack had stepped on stage???? Just a random dream here...
OK back to reality!

Thanks FAN, I knew I had read somewhere about someone saying Johnny arrived 45 minutes late but at the time I just passed it off as rumor, but now, well heck, so many of you that attended were in stone's throw!
Karen I like your scenario---------of course the place would have been in pandemonium and you probably wouldn't be able to get to the film-lol. oh to dream-------

Exactly and why they didn't want anyone to know he was there. Most all of that midnight audience had been there all day for the marathon and we were all just hyped hyped hyped! lol

Thanks I love reading Terry's stories about the happenings on the set he is so talented and funny. He is always making remarks about how no one recognizes him. His mention of Johnny and Vanessa joining them was like no big deal. But I think he is in awe of Johnny because he didn't know for sure how to approach him about autographing the horse picture, that whole episode was priceless.

There were so many great tidbits there----had to laugh when he talked about the "shippers" and how he was trying to explain it to Gore----
