Many thanks to Johnnylubber for the pics!

It looks like Johnny will have another opportunity to dance with a bear. LOL

Because Lin used the English term "bear hug" to Abdullah......as a gift to Lin, Abdullah supplied Lin with a bear to hug. Then towards the end, Lin helps disguise the bear (as a Ganesh) as it makes it's escape through the city. Can you think of any other instances through the book when a catch phrase was misinterpreted? This was also one of Prabu's specialties.

These pictures are GREAT!!! Of course, we all know, yaar, that Johnny wears a Ganesha pendant around his neck, so there's even more of a connection to that Hindu icon than usual. And the prospect of having a bear in another Johnny project is a delightful!

What comes to mind with this question is Lin's first bath in the slum, when Prabu is shocked to learn Lin does not wear 'over-underpants'. That bit of dialogue is hilarious...to wit:
"No, Lin! This is India. Nobody is ever naked in India. And especially, nobody is naked without clothes."

I am so far behind! Up to question 25!! I need to do many other things to get up to speed in Johnnyland first but I will make an attempt to re-join this discussion. Please bear with me. I just got web access at home today, via my daughter's school computer. Mine needs to be re-built at no small expense, and I may disappear for a few days again next week while hubby gets the new one up and running.
Anyway, I'll be back hopefully before the day is out. I can't even remember where I left off. And would you believe I'm still reading Shantaram? Page 705.

I sure have missed being here!

In keeping with this discussion question, amp, here's a big BEAR HUG for ya! I hope all obstacles are soon removed from your computer and that you're up and running again, cheap and easy! :D

I know this is a stupid question, but would it be easier/ less costly to buy a new comp??

Perhaps, but I think it's about the same $$--and this is my husband and his plan we are talking about. I stay out of it, Mostly.

I honestly can't think of a single thing (but for sure there is something, yaar) that can answer this question. I did think of the over-underpants, though I don't think it's what the question is looking for. I read that passage to random people sometimes. If they don't laugh, that tells me a lot about them.
And I steer clear--they are too uptight, and they must be wearing too many over-underpants.

I like the continuity of the story, that Lin want's a girl.
Prabu suggests Karla, Lin says NO!
THEN ,
Prabu pays for a big fat experienced prostitute after the countryside adventure!
One with LOTS of experience!

Depputante - July 28, 2007 03:05 AM (GMT)
Another one is on the train, when Lin gets up and gives the old guy a seat.
Prabu lifts his shirt and says something like... Did I get all these bruses for THAT Old Geezer !?!
And the whole train car agrees with Prabu!
He's earned his keep, and Lin needs to observe and respect Prabu's hard work ! B)

That was such a great scene!!!

Oh! I love both of those scenes, Depputante! I hope they stay in the film! They really show the cultural differences and how easy it is for foreigners to inadvertently offend, or to be inadvertently offended! I got such a kick out of Prabu's taste in 'experienced' ladies of the night!
