How can anyone NOT love this man?
carpediem - June 4, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
Johnny says he's not that good at acceptance speeches, but he has to hug, kiss, shake hands and/or greet everyone because everyone wants his attention, and on top of it all, focus on thanking everyone for the award. It would be a lot for anyone to get through.
I could totally see Bruckheimer wanting to work with him again. It's great that the Disney/Bruckheimer marketing machinery gave large numbers of the public a chance to see how skilled the Cap't. Jack Sparrow performance was. As a result, I'm sure a lot of people went on to check out Johnny's earlier performances as well.

Just caught this on the west coast thanks for the heads up on when Johnny was on so I could skip all the drivel before hand! Just echo what everyone has said------lovely, lovely, man, so humble and appreciative. Jerry's right(no matter what TnTerry say), Johnny is the reason they were able to make the sequels and have so much recognition.(As evidenced by exit polls from AWE of why people went to see the films).
Thanks also for the great caps and clips-------so glad to see Johnny again looking so happy. :D

Silly man, trying to hide behind his hair again.
I wonder how long it will take the "fashion police" to start criticizing everything we adore about Johnny.
Did you hear Jerry prompting Johnny to thank the writers? I thought that was cute.
Holly, good to know you're OK. Hope your internet is up and running soon. You're missed!!

I agree...that was funny how Jerry was "whispering" to thank the writers, too.
These are all such wonderful pictures!

I thought I could hear Jerry reminding Johnny to thank the writers. Awe Johnny is just the sweetest Angel on Earth. He is so deserving because without Johnny there would have been no Pirate fanchise and that is the truth. Thanks again for the clip and pictures I sure wish I had finished watching the awards.

Yup it sounds like Jerry forgot...
...tis a pity that the writers have seemed a bit cranky lately in interviews about thanking Johnny tho....but that's just my humble opinion. Keira and OB are fine actors, but we all know without Depp....it woudn't be the huge sucess it is, nor would there have been a P2 or a P3.

:thanks MK for the clip. I appreciate you getting them done and so quickly.
Thanks Ellen and Anne, I missed yall too. It sure was a long day.

I have to agree Karen-----it's because of Johnny those guys had a job for the next 2 sequels. Yes, they wrote the words, but Johnny took them to another level. It seems everyone is going overboard to make sure they thank TNTerry. However, on the flip side, they seem to get the brunt of the criticism from critics i.e. the constant complaint that the movies are too confusing...............

I think, from what I've read and heard, there were parts of plot driven dialogue that was filmed that might have explained some of the plot hole issues that was reportedly cut by GV. Hmmm..see this is where I get on my soap box. We had a 20 minute maelstrom scene. Could have had, IMO, a 15 minute maelstrom scene and 5 minutes of plot necessary dialogue and we woudn't be wondering about the heart...and Calypso and Davy Jones and Will and Elizabeth....sheesh.
captainjacksparrow - June 5, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
Also, remember Johnny in an interview said something along the lines that he went to Gore and was asking, please can I have a scene with some dialogue :banghead
herestoyou - June 5, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
Even though I loved the maelstrom scene, if it would have made the whole FD-heart- just- for -10- years or eternity issue clearer, then they could have cut down the Will/Lizzie wedding business.

It already started last night---I read some guy's blog that Johnny showd up trying to bring back 90's grunge(apparently doesn't realize he usually dresses like this). Then this same person said Johnny needed a better speech when he was on stage with Michael Bay---------the director of AWE------so, consider the source of this write up!

Accord! Absolutely! It's been fun trying to tease out the significance of certain plot twists and turns in AWE, and to try to figure out who did what to whom and why, but it would've been even more fun if those things had been made clear in the actual movie! I'm guessing not many viewers are going to bother trying to solve these refrigerator moments in the same dedicated (not to say obsessive) way we've been doing. A little less maelstrom and a little more dialogue would've done the trick me thinks.
Hibblette - June 5, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
Like I have said some of the stuff is there but you have to go see it the fourth time to catch it-why?
Perhaps it is because of all the action. Not just the Maelstrom...but like in DMC instead of that long sword battle between Will, Jack and Norrington if there had been more dialogue on like what the heart and the dirt in the jar was all about.
I still love the movies but yes-there is some clarity moments.
But like I said in another thread if Davy didn't cut his heart out until after she betrayed him then just why the heck did Will have to have his cut out. His girl was faithful and actually had proven it.
Maybe they do need another director if they do the fourth one.
I like the writers-big fan of the writers.

I used the Maelstrom scene as a point of reference as it was long enough to have a few minutes shaved for the sake of clarity in other spots. LOL Any shaving here and there would have helped.
I think the director's lost a bit of focus and gotten a bit self indulgent. I know this is not a popular statement, but I fear that the writers could be burned out on Pirates. But it's just my opinion and I'm stuck with it. lol
herestoyou - June 5, 2007 05:31 AM (GMT)
Speaking of the jar of dirt------what was that for then?
If they do a P4, I think Jerry B. said they're looking at adapting a novel which might be easier to do.
Ever since AWE came out I remember two quotes I read, one from Gore and the other from Johnny, I think in that EW article.
Gore said something like "We reinvented the pirate genre in P1 and now we're going to kill it in AWE."
Johnny about the negativity of critics: "They're going to hit below the belt with this one." (Referring to AWE)

As always...Johnny was right! But the numbers sure prove the so called critics wrong.
I attended a press screening, they were predisposed to hate it. I heard them speaking to each other. Oh and one of our "bigger" critics arrived late and left before the film was over. sheesh
Newbie - June 5, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I agree that Gore could have cut some of the maelstrom scene...really didn't need to see that Capt. Jack was indestructible and was never in danger of losing to Davy Jones
From my numerous viewings of both DMC and AWE, I gathered that putting the heart into the jar of dirt prevented Davy Jones from harming Capt. Jack, since DJ cannot step foot on land except for once every 10 years...and it was shown in AWE during the "parlay" beach scene where DJ had to stand in a barrel of water!
Parlez - June 5, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
Self-indulgent? Yep, I'd agree with that as a summation of how the trilogy has been handled by Gore and possibly the execs on board. AWE is amazing, no doubt about it, but there is also an undercurrent of self-indulgence, IMO, and I feel it sort of got off track in places. I recall one of the writers saying that everything would be wrapped up by the end of AWE. The fact that we're left not entirely sure how everything got wrapped up is another matter! So, yes, I'd love to see a POTC4 with fresh blood, as it were, at the helm. I don't think the pirate genre has been killed, especially since Johnny is willing to reprise Captain Jack. He IS the pirate genre afterall!

I totally agree. I LOVE these movies. But it shouldn't be necessary to do homework to understand the plot. :writing Obviously a lot of people enjoy the movie even though they don't really understand all of it, mainly, I suspect, because of Captain Jack. But how much more enjoyable it would be if there weren't so many questions. :shistle

I want to thank who put up this clip. Did anyone hear the girl in the audience scream "I love you, Johnny"? It just melted my heart. I wish I could have the chance to tell him that, or to even scream it!!These films are my all-time favorite by all means. I also think Johnny does a good job at thanking everyone in this show. I love reading all of the JDR members talk about these movies. It helps me understand alot that I didn't before. I'm so glad to be part of a great thing. I am so glad to know of such a great guy-JOHNNY. :bow
