I have just gotten back from seeing it for the second time today. I wont go into too much details as there are still a lot who have not seen it yet due to time zones. But you are in for a treat. It absolutely rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I will mention one thing. I had to watch it a second time after i missed a lot the first time round. I had a bit trouble focusing again after seeing Jack shirtless :thud :thud

SavvyAngelUK - May 24, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Oh and as Karen mentioned the Easter Egg at the end. Definately worth seeing. Beautiful.

aristeamj - May 24, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Just got home from seeing the movie....
i must say i am a bit stunned at the end...not what i expected.i'm not saying it wasn't good, but i sit here dumbfounded  it had a weird effect on me...and i'm talking especially about will/liz end.
I loved the movie!Great plot, great dialogues(Jack was smth else on that one),i think it was the funniest from the three movies...AMAZING special effects.
and the part with the different Johnnies....perfect!!!just amazing...
and keith richards'cameo was very very good...
the only thing that i think was not boring, but useless in this film was Calypso...i guess it was the way to end Tia's character, but it doesn't really help the plot...at least i didn't understand how could do smth.
Overall, great!every character comes to an end.
And Johnny shirtless.....OMG!!!! woohoo woohoo
Gonna watch it again soon...and you don't even understand how time goes by!!

SavvyPeppers - May 25, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
Just got home! My mom and I soooooo enjoyed the film. We just LOVED it! Earlier today I picked up our tickets for Saturday at the Walt Disney World Pleasure Island AMC, and I noticed that all 12 showings for 8 p.m. were sold out! Great news!

Tonight we had dinner before the movie, and we arrived at the theater an hour before...the line was already out to the street. The guy actually took our tickets outside! When we left the 8 p.m. showing, the line for the midnight showing was out to the street again. I can't imagine how crazy it must have been out at Disney; we saw it at a theater closer to my home.

I can't wait to see the film again! So much happened that it was difficult to process at times, but just absolutely incredible. The Easter Egg at the end brought me to tears...just beautiful!

Also, I'm glad our canine pal returned due to roping a couple of sea turtles! I was hoping he'd be back. woohoo It was great to see Murtogg & Mulroy (sp?), too...I had so missed them.

Rose Sparrow - May 25, 2007 03:58 AM (GMT)
Everything I thought it would be and more!!!! woohoo
Every character from 'we named the monkey Jack' to Jack himself was incredible.
Keith was a big hit and got one of the biggest applauses during the movie!
The special efffects were unbelieveable and time wise... it went by so fast!
I laughed, I cried and can't wait to talk to you all about it! woohoo

deppaholic - May 25, 2007 05:12 AM (GMT)
Indescribably delicious and HOT, HOT, HOT!
So many surprises, so many laughs, so many Jacks! So much luscious screencap material! :thud
I am thrilled with this movie from start to finish and cannot wait to see it again! Captain Jack is all over this film and stealing every scene, with the possible exception of his scenes with Barbossa who is brilliant also. Though I never wanted to see a sword through Will's heart :( , I was satisfied with the rest of the Lizzie/Will storyline, especially the fact that they got married (otherwise she'd have been free to pursue Jack and I didn't want that :D ). I must say that Will makes an extremely fine looking pirate, though....
Keith Richards surprised me and won me over completely. Perfect casting--what an inspired performance!
I loved how so many of my favorite characters got more screen time this time around. The sweetest, tenderest thing in the whole film was when Ragetti was the one who knew how to speak to Calypso like a lover. I was so glad he got to do that! Speaking of Calypso, I think her story provided the only sour note---when she expanded into a huge Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloon, I just had to cringe. Murtog and Mullroy were downright hilarious! The cute monkey and parrot ("Abandon ship!") scenes I think will particularly delight the littlest theatergoers.
Length, schmength! It wasn't long enough, if you ask me! The only part that ever seemed slow in the least was the first part before Jack arrived. I confess that I did glance at my watch once or twice during that time, but that was only because I had heard when to expect Jack's entrance!
Now I don't know which I like best---COTB or AWE! They are both fantastic! I guess it will take many, many more viewings for me to make a decision on where I stand, but that's my burden to bear :) !
Rose
PS Captain Jack is HOTTER THAN EVER! :thud

SavvyAngelUK - May 25, 2007 06:45 AM (GMT)

I agree with the others about Calpyso. I understand that they needed to round up the story but it seemed a bit pointless to me. Seems to me that they coudl have missed it out. On another note, I got a bit confused as to who was backstabbing who but I just went with the flow. It was absolutely incredible.

I loved the ending. A beautiful way to finish for Liz and Will and with Jack and his little dingy  the way it all started...absolutely brilliant.

Jack was absolutely hillarious in this one. Probably more so than the other two. Even though Barbossa got the pearl yet again I loved how part of the map happened to be missing. Perfect little touch.

Going to see again today (3rd time) with my mum. Cant wait. woohoo

WARNING: HEAVY SPOILERS

Just returned from the POTC marathon at the El Cap-------what a great event Disney organized with this! However, to the movie, there was such a rowdy crowd to see the films and a lot of cheering when the movie started, but it fell deathly silent at that opening with the hangings---------WOW! Yes, a lot more Jack Sparrow which was great. The ending was very bittersweet, but beautifully done in my opinion. So much mythology and so many things come together. Did you notice that it was the sword that Will made for Norrington in P1 that ends up killing him in the film? Also, the knife that Will's father gave him is the one his father uses to cut his heart out? There are so many little tidbits like this that I'm sure I missed. Looking forward to adding more over the next few days.

As for Calypso, I thought it was necessary to see her connection to Davey Jones part in the story. Yes, when she was "released", that was rather interesting.

-Donna

aristeamj - May 25, 2007 08:13 AM (GMT)
Wow Donna, you're right about the sword & the knife..i didn't notice that.

Can someone please tell me what was the easter egg about?i didn't catch it. :(

WARNING: MORE SPOILERS

OMG, I LOVED this movie!! I took my son and his best friend with me (I even bought an extra ticket just to help out a little with this weekends numbers) :)

The whole theatre was jammed full. Everyone seemed to love the movie. They all laughed when there were funny parts and really reacted to the film and they all clapped at the end. The only thing, almost everyone got up and left before the credits were over. There were only a hand full that stayed to see the part after the credits. I guess not everyone knows to stay for the extra little clip. To me, I actually felt like the clip was the ending of the movie.

Now about the movie itself. My son, his friend, and I, all three agreed that we LOVED AWE more than the first two!! There was romance, more humor, more JACK (and you know what I mean woohoo ) and the special effects were MAGNIFACENT!!

Yes, Jack was HOT, gorgeous and as usual hilarious and then some!! The whole cast was great!! I loved the way Jack and Barbossa was always arguing over who was head Captain. I thought the ending was perfect. The only thing that left me wondering and wishing there was going to be a 4th one is, I would like to know why " little Will" was being hung in the start of the movie!! I didn't even realize the little boy in the start of AWE was actually Liz and Will's son. ( My son was the one who pointed it out to me ).

So, overall, We all loved the film and everything about it, except the scene with Calypso, it was a little weird but I guess it was fitting, also. We can't wait to go see it again, so we are going to go again tomorrow!!

God, I LOVED this movie!! Johnny was so funny and I hate to see this character end!! :(

I 'm still very excited about this movie, to me the funniest one of the 3 . Captain Jack was just hilarious!, I personally loved the scene with the crabs.About Calypso hmmmmm.. iinteresting I think it was necesary to develop that part of the plot, it was straight related to Davy Jones, so it was necesary to show that in the story. I did notice that Will was killed with the same sword he made for Norrington. ironic! isn't it? and Davy Jones killed with Bootstraps' knife. I am not sure I liked how Will and Elizabeth story ended up, i think is sad they still are apart. :( . Poor CJ Barbossa stole his ship again!!!  . Keith was so good, i have to say the guy surprised me. The speciall effects were just AMAZING!!
In summary , I loved the movie, can't wait to see it again, I did miss the easter egg! What is that? I don't like to see Captain Jack going away, But I have the feeling we'll see him again in the future. ;)

SavvyPeppers - May 25, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to spoil what the Easter Egg was...all the more reason to go see it again this weekend! ;)

What I thought was interesting...when I came home, I compared things to the movie storybook I had gotten (which I had not read the story at all as I wanted to be surprised)...with Governor Swann, it looks like (at least from the storybook) that as they were looking at the wreckage, Davy Jones was to have told Governor Swann that Elizabeth was dead when the Kraken pulled down the Pearl. Then Governor Swann was about to stab the heart himself, but when he found out what his responsibilities would be, he was too scared.

The storybook also said that Beckett had ordered Jones to kill his beloved Kraken.

Perhaps these will be deleted scenes eventually; the only thing I missed seeing (that I was looking forward to) was Barbossa & CJS fighting over the wheel of the Pearl (pictures of that in most of the books Disney published). I can't really complain though because I so loved AWE! It was the best!

Rose Sparrow - May 25, 2007 12:41 PM (GMT)
I'm so glad I'm reading all of these post before I go and see it again tonight because I knew about the sword and the knife that Denise mentioned but I didn't know who the little boy at the beginning was!
I loved the way Lizzie and Will get married in the middle of a battle and probably one of my favorite Jack lines is, 'I've lost me brain'. I can see me using that line alot! LOL
I loved Barbossa! His steering through the storm was an incredible scene!
And I love Jack's 'How's mum line'!
So what I'm guessing at this point is, that Will does not become what DJ was. His purpose is to shepherd the dying souls at sea to the hereafter. Right?

Ooooh so many things going on and I was so excited that I probably missed a bunch! I'll be more observant next time! woohoo :snoopy woohoo

aristeamj - May 25, 2007 01:12 PM (GMT)
Now i'm a bit confused...that little boy at the beginning is Will/Liz son?how come?
and if he has one of the nine pieces of eight, that means that Liz gave it to him..
so the first scene is the end of the story?

Sparrowette - May 25, 2007 01:29 PM (GMT)
That has me confused as well. At first, I thought it was Captain jack but it could not be as he was hung. Interesting start. Great film! Love all the Captain Jacks. I was hoping that tia Dalma would reunited with Davey Jones but it was never to be.

Yvonne in LA

aristeamj - May 25, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
Yeah it's a great film.excellent work

i'm making a thought now,if that little boy has one of the nine pieces of eight, that means Lizzie gave it to him,if she's his mother..that means Elizabeth is dead?and this is what happened to the little boy? on the other hand,we see Becket on that scene with the hangings,so it cannot be possible.
but someone must be dying in order to pass his piece of eight to a successor, right?
Are we sure that the kid was Will and Liz's son?

Karen - May 25, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
While the young boy at the beginning had one of the pieces of eight, I don't see how he can be Will's son as his singing started the call to the pirate lords. Beckett was told that "they are singing" and Beckett was waiting for it. THEN Lizzie goes to Singapore to meet with Sao Feng. Beckett had the actual pieces of eight lined up on his desk and the pirate lords had the "poor" versions of them remember?

sparrowgirl77 - May 25, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
hhhmmmm! I don't quite remember that part Karen, but Thank you for pointing it out! another reason to go back to the movies hehehehehheehe!! There was too much going on in the movie , it was hard to keep track on everything. :D I am still trying to figure out who that boy was at the begining of the movie.

Beckett had them on his desk and played with one between his fingers as best I remember. Gee another reason to see it again. LOL

Also the easter egg started with the "10 years later" and showed their son with Elizabeth and Will has been captain of the Flying Dutchman at that point then for 10 years.

The boy at the beginning was just another pirate, like the others.

Haven't heard any numbers yet as anything before the midnight show won't count towards opening weekend, but it will count for total dollars.

SavvyAngelUK - May 25, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
I think Karen is right. I dont think the boy at teh beginning is Will and Liz's son. It just doesnt fit. Especially since Beckett is alive at the hangings but obviously not alive at teh birth of Liz and Wills son. I just think the boy happened to be a pirate or have a connection to a pirate (probably with the supposed piece of eight he had). Interesting view though.

aristeamj - May 25, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Karen for helping us out and for telling us the easter egg :D :D

maybe that's why the put the boy there,in order to make the scene of the hanging more dramatic.

captainjacksparrow - May 25, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
I dont think that it was a piece of 8 that he had...I think that it was just a shilling.
The singing had to begin in order for the pirate Lords to gather.
Remember the pieces of 8 were just things they had in the pockets at the time.....

irish1967 - May 25, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
Just in case Karen's post didn't cover the warning...

Ye Be Warned - Spoilers ahead...

OK - I just got back from the 11:30 a.m. showing here ... it wasn't sold out, but I actually selected that show because I figured it would be less crowded than the rest (school isn't out here yet - lunch time and too early for people who are working the whole day - you get the picture.) As I was leaving, they were preparing the lobby area for crowds - and I had to wait in line to purchase our tix for Sunday.

So - here are my thoughts. I loved the movie from beginning to end and will probably end up seeing it at least 3 more times (gotta figure out if I can affort to go anymore than that!)

The only part I thought could have done better was the giant Calypso - I don't know, I guess as she was expanding, I was expecting her to be more "goddess like" rather than just a giant Tia Dalma... But I thought it was cool when she turned into billions of crabs.

Not sure what my favorite Jack line was yet, but my favorite non-Jack line...

Will - I choose you, Elizabeth, who do you choose?

Elizabeth - Barbossa ... he can marry us (not a direct quote but...

The timing was perfect.) I had heard the Barbossa performed the marriage, but it wasn't ANYTHING like I pictured.

I really liked how the movie ended...so much like the beginning of the COTBP - Jack saves Elizabeth from drowning (when the FD sank in the maelstrom)... I see his role in her life as a protector - as much as Gov. Swan loved Elizabeth, he really didn't do a great job of protecting her - rather than a romantic interest (no offense to anyone who is a Sparrowbeth shipper.) And Jack is in a dighny, looking for the Pearl - full circle.

Perhaps the boy who is hung at the beginning was the same actor as the boy who played Will and Elizabeth's son - definitely not the same character, in my opinion.

Also, my understanding was that as long as Will fulfills his duty and sheherds the souls who die at sea to the afterlife, he will not become a fish face like Davy Jones. Davy Jones changed AFTER he stopped ferrying the souls.

Definitely - stay for the Easter Egg - the credits really don't go on that long (less than 10 minutes, I would say) and it is worth the wait.

I know this isn't written really well - I need to see it again for things I missed and also get the cross and double crosses straight - but definitely one of my top three favorite movies ever (can you guess the other two?)

Oh and shirtless Jack... :upinsmoke

Edited to add spoiler warning.

Everyone is failing to mention how good Keith R. was in the movie. I thought that he looked the perfect pirate and that he did his part really well. The way that Gore talked in an interview Keith's part was very quick. I didn't think so. It was compared to the other actor's though. As for the multiple Jacks and shirtless Jack...... :thud . BTW, the theatre was 3/4 full but that was early to mid-afternoon. The lines were much longer waiting to get in to the six theatres when we walked out of ours. I'm sure that it' crazier tonight.

Liz and Will have a boy??? What!!, wow i wasent expecting that!!!!

I totally agree with whom ever said that Jack was a protector to Liz like he'll always be there to save her from a malestrume or dance around the campfire with her. I love it when Jack gets all romantic. .I think Jack is happy with his wenches ;) ....(us)........ :D

Watch in p4 that lil Will is going to be a pirate just like his dad!! and you know what would be funny!!?? If lil Will would look to Jack as a role model!!! and take after him you know!! . I think Jack would make a great sub dad when Will is away, that way Jack can teach lil Will how to be a REAL pirate. Probably the opposite of what Will is teaching him!!!!

If you ask me i think it would make a great story!!

Rose Sparrow - May 26, 2007 11:53 AM (GMT)
I agree with those of you here who say Jack is extremely hot when he is serious. :thud
I love Jack's foolishness and mannerisms (running after the Pearl in the sand was priceless) but it's that side of him that I sometimes wish we could see more of.

It would also be interesting, if there is a P4, if Jack's look would change a little given the fact that it is 10 years later.

I also want to add that my teenage son and his friends loved it! My father and his wife, both in their eighties loved it and my nephew who's seven (although I did have to explain some parts) loved it! I think they have accomplished creating a movie for all ages to enjoy again! woohoo

Going back today for the third time! :snoopy

Good question Joanie...I need to check the play for quotes, as we know Johnny loves that play when I get home. Anyone have a copy handy?

I did enjoy Keith and thought he brought a lot to the role..Disney had stated that if it couldn't be worked out time wise for KR that the role would have to be recast.

I know that this is Johnny's favorite part. Any of this sound familiar?

In the time of your life, live -- so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding place and let it be free and unashamed. Place in matter and in flesh the least of the values, for these are the things that hold death and must pass away. Discover in all things that which shines and is beyond corruption. Encourage virtue in whatever heart it may have been driven into secrecy and sorrow by the shame and terror of the world. Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart. Be the inferior of no man, nor of any man be the superior. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself. No man's guilt is not yours, nor is any man's innocence a thing apart. Despise evil and ungodliness, but not men of ungodliness or evil. These, understand. Have no shame in being kindly and gentle, but if the time comes in the time of your life to kill, kill and have no regret. In the time of your life, live -- so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it. ~William Saroyan

Saw the movie last night and it was fantastic!!!

Well.. there's definitely plenty of Jack's to go around arent there.. lol!!! I loved that bit of the conversations back and forth between themselves!!

I loved how the movie began... quite serious wasnt it.. and I especially loved how the movie ended.. it was perfect.. Jack in his little dingy boat. To me with that being his final scene in the movie.. it was almost as if he was giving himself with that drink of rum from the bottle .. a final toast to Capt Jack!!

The jokes and the one liners were terrific.. there were so many of them. We all were laughing. Oh .. when Mary fired that big gun near the beginning while in Singapore and he went flying backwards with such force into that hole the whole place just lost it with laughter!! Loved the subtle tidbit references to the other 2 movies that were thrown in here and there.

There is just so much that my mind is just a blur of it all... of course that just gives reason for more future trips to the theater.

I thought for a while .. at least for me that it was turning into an Elizabeth movie.

I dont know what these critics are talking about.. I had no trouble whatsoever with following the story... none of us did.

As for Calypso.. I was a little disappointed with what she turned into.. I was expecting much more.. like someone else stated earlier.. more god-like.. just not a giant of herself... but when she turned into all those crabs.. later my son said to me.. that Calypso certainly had a lot of crabs.. lol .. if you get the pun he was making.. lol I was a bit disappointed that it turned out the way it did and that Calypso/Tia Dalma did not end up with Davy Jones... I had figured that it was those two together during the last movie.

I liked how it turned out to be Ragetti's wooden eye that was Barbosa's piece of 8.

Johnny of course brought so much more to Capt Jack.. more whimisical.. and that uncertainy feelings ..
and yeah.. when he is serious.. oh is he user posted image

I have to admit.. I do tire of some of the sword fighting scenes.. but that last one was so well orchestrated!! The moves and the timing was excellent. I cracked up when the treasure chest landed on shell head fish guy and he lost his head again and then stumbled and flipped over the side of the ship user posted image

And when finally Keith Richards.. Capt Teague appeared that was just great!! He did an awesome job. I was really expecting him to be more like Capt Jack.. that type of unbalanced swagger.. .. just more similarieties than there actually were. The part was downplayed more than I expected.. but it was just perfect the way it was done. I wish of course there was more interaction between the two of them.

In the final battle scene with the Endeavor.. I do believe when the ship is getting ripped apart and Beckett is going down the stairs.. I know that was all CG .. but with everything that was flying around him.. they should have had him get hit a bit with some of that flying wood debris. I thought it looked odd that he was not getting anything on him at all. I mean.. wouldnt it have been nice to have seen him get hit in the head with a big plank of wood or something .. instead of just exploding with the ship. I'd like to have seen him get a little more battered up .. he sooooo deserved it!!! user posted image It would have been such a great moment of cheering!!

I was so not expecting that to happen to Will. I got very teary eyed there at that part. And then Jacks hesitation on stabbing the heart.. he had stated that it would be great to be the last pirate and to have immortality.. but then his own heart won through cause he knew how much Will and Elizabeth loved each other and it would be the only way Will could live on and somehow work out a way to be together.

Ok.. now speaking of Will.. I'm sure the Orlando fans didnt mind at all .. but I thought it was kind of funny when they were on the ship going through all the icebergs.. and there is this one of Will,, his shirt was wide open.. wonderful chest view.. but it's freezing out.. wouldnt he have tried to button it up.. or close it somehow.. lol

I of course was sad when Capt Jack was drifting off to see by his lonesome... cause I know "if" and "when" we would get a 4th movie .. it's not going to be for a while. And that is fine with me .. I'm anxious as we all are for other Johnny films.

They did set it up perfectly though for another movie. Waited through all the credits to see what the surprise would be.. and as soon as I saw Elizabeth I knew there was going to be a child.. and with him being 10 yrs old now.. I could very well see another movie happening in 8-10 yrs maybe. I would think though that the two of them would still see each other more often than once every 10 yrs.. he just has to anchor the Flying Dutchman off shore and she row on out for .. umm.. visits.. lol!!

Well.. I've rambled enough .. cant wait to see it again!!!

Oh.. almost forgot one thing.. the Monkey.. he was absolutely priceless in this!!! When he was shivering and so cold.. everybody went awwwwww!!!

Well, we've been at a soccer tournament in South Bend, IN all weekend, but yesterday afternoon 22 of us from my son's U-12 team and families went to see AWE. 21 of us loved it. (The 22nd liked it, but had unrelated real-life issues on her mind and can be excused, I guess.
As it was my second viewing--and I pause here to say BRAVO! again to cast, crew, writers, director, producer, etc.-- I enjoyed so much looking for things I'd missed the first time around! Still missed tons, I'm sure, and noticed from another thread here that the mouse ears did make at least one appearance, which I'll have to try to spot next time. :)
I do have an issue which I've not seen addressed: If Davy Jones can safely stand on a sand bar with his lower limbs in a bucket, wouldn't you think Will and Lizzie could work out some seawater hot-tub hookups now and then? I'm just saying....
Calypso would surely have the answer to that question, but now that she's exploded into a bazillion crabs she's just maddeningly unhelpful! Somebody help me here so I can say "I knew there was a good reason."

Just found out last night that there were 26 of us there, not 22. We weren't all able to sit together... :)

My only guess would be that Will was performing his duties as the captain of the FD more honorably that DJones did. He was supposed to stay in the underworld ferrying the souls across for all of those 10 years. DJones went off on his own after Calypso's betrayal and made his own rules which resulted in him looking like a squid. Glad your group enjoyed the film, I hadn't planned on going today as real life is piling up in my laundry room, but I woke up and have this urgent need to see it again-lol.

Something else I noticed, which may be totally irrelevant, but I found it interesting. After the Pearl is returned to the land of the living and all of the characters draw guns on each other, pretty funny scene there, Jack tells Barbossa he's not going back to DJones' locker and he pulls the trigger on his gun. It only spurts out a little water and then led to the rest of them doing this, pretty funny. However, Jack didn't know that the pistol wouldn't work, so was he actually willing to shoot/kill Barbossa yet again at that point? Also, look at Jack's expression at the end of that scene when they're all walking away, he scowls at Barbossa. I'm probably over analyzing the scene, but just thought that was interesting.

AWE is addictive-every time I go (4) I feel the need to go back!! But I guess that is what summer is for-as long as the funds hold out-the early shows 10 am are $5.00 in my area.
