I was lucky enough to get passes from Karen to last night's premiere. First off let me tell you what a gem the Orpheum theater is. It's in the middle of downtown in a...let's call it transitional neighborhood. The interior is pristine and really harkens back to Hollywood's heyday. Tarantino and Rodriguez came on stage to say a few words before the film started. Quentin mentioned that the theater was historic in that he thought "Birth of a Nation" had it's premiere here and that it was also where he'd come to see all the great double features of the 70's and 80's.

The film is three hours of gory, butt-kicking fun! There are "trailers" between Planet Terror and Death Proof by genre greats: Rob Zombie, Edgar Wright (Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), and Eli Roth (Hostile). The cast for both the films is stellar. You watch and find yourself going "oh it's HIM!" or "I remember her from..." Standouts for me were the incredible Kurt Russell, Traci Thoms, and my new personal hero Zoe Bell.

My thanks to Karen for this wonderful opportunity. I was proud to represent JDR all the way from the back row of the balconey!

Thanks MomosanLA for the info about last night's premiere. I love seeing these older theaters being rehabbed and used like this!!

Sounds like a terrific and different kind of movie! Can't wait to see it!
