We were quiet here in Cincy compared to this group. I spotted someone from this group. I'm glad that we all had a great time.

Thanks so much, Anne, for the clip! woohoo

Did anyone else have problems with the downloaded clip? It ended on a shot of the dog, and the woman wasn't done with her voiceover. It's missing the part with Orlando. :( Hope someone can help!

Sparrowette - March 19, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
I saw my Disneyland Captain Sparrow and myself and Fred twice!

Hi Susan.

I am so sorry, it is my fault that the clip cuts off before the end. I didn't realise when I posted it.

It doesn't matter what program I use, I just can't get it copy past that point.

If I manage a descent copy, I will post it immediately.

Sorry again

Thank you Jesse and Anne, for the links. I've FINALLY got my computer updated and running, and have been able to watch the trailer - and now the news clip - of the AWE trailer event. It's true; it is better late than never  Looks as though AWE is going to be one fantastic ride!! I can hardly wait, and am only now even more anxious about making it to see the opening due to a possible surgery that may be very poorly timed. I've been doing everything in my power to avoid it, but now I'm worried that those efforts may have produced the old "spit in the wind" results.

Loved the news clip. There's something in the pirate spirit that's ignited and taken hold of so many. Seems the atmosphere is ripe for it, and why not? Life is short. I watched wondering if anyone from the outside looking in might not compare these fans to Star Wars fanatics or Trekkies. Maybe it's my own personal bias slipping in, but I sense something different in their passion. Whatever it is; it seems a WHOLE lot of fun!! Thanks again guys, for providing the links.

Pinot I hope all goes well if you need the surgery, I know it's hard to put those things off sometimes. What I love about the whole "pirate" phenomena is that it's cross generational. When I look at the crowd that attended this event in LA as well as the midnight show of DMC last summer, it was truly a mix. I think with Star Wars and Start Trek, you still get a nice cross, but nothing like I've seen with pirates. My 80 year old mother loves these movies but has no interest in ST or SW. Now I know my husband has to put up with me for the next couple of months leading up to AWE, but he's learned to live with it! Plus, it's just a lot of good ol' fun!

herestoyou, Thank you for your well wishes; they are much appreciated.
I agree with your statement about the allure being cross-generational - and isn't that great?! Not sure if that's due to the fact that the movie reaches the child in all of us, or if there's a deeper, common, human element that strikes at the roots of who we are and covers all types of demographics. But there was just something in the jubilation of the fans in line that reminded me of children being released on the last day of school before summer break. It's as though something inside that's remained confined has finally found an outlet. These movies accomplish that in so many ways; from making it a source of entertainment for kids and adults alike, to being introduced to an "unconventional" pirate in Jack Sparrow.

One little sidebar; in reference to the DMC movie and my recent health difficulties. I've had to go through some pretty rough and unpleasant proceedures. Those who are not passionate about these movies might think this a bit bizzarre, but I think you and others here might understand. What I used to get me through each one, was a visualization inspired by DMC; where CJS whacks the Kraken muck from his tricorner hat, places it on his head, says "not so bad," then draws his sword and proceeds to fight the good fight. It may seem silly to many, but I love the spirit in that moment, and want to use it to fight my own "Krakens." It's gotten me through, and whatever you can use to inspire success.... why not?

I loved what you wrote about how we have our own Krakens to fight. It makes so much sense and was very inspirational! Take care, and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

SavvyPeppers, thanks for your well wishes :) Indeed, so many of us do have our own Krakens; in different sizes, shapes, and often even species for that matter! (I swear that one former boss was from another planet ;) ). The key is to look them dead in the eye, and say those words, "Not so bad" (and believe them) :D
