Along with the dog and the monkey! I know once they get home, we will start getting some reports from others in LA tonight!!

Thanks so much Patty for posting that AWEsome pic!!! WOO HOOOO

Patty - March 19, 2007 03:53 AM (GMT)
I can't imagine, on top of getting in to see the trailer, how exciting that must have been to have Orlando show up unexpectedly. Disney is really showing us how to rule the world! ;)

The rest of the pics posted at WireImage are here. Lots of adorable kids in costume.

woohoo How exciting for all the LA fans! I'm so envious!

herestoyou - March 19, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
woohoo woohoo Just got back from the El Cap---------so much fun! Yes, Orlando was there in the flesh, better looking in person in my opinion, what a cutie!! He was very gracious thanking all of us for being so supportive of the movies. Yes, the dog and Jack the monkey were there, too. There was a lot of great swag that was raffled off, unfortunately none came home with me. Anyone else make out with any? Everyone was given a "goody" bag with a Capt. Jack bandana, a disc of the new online pirate game, and a numbered artwork piece from the game. In addtion, we were all give a "credential" pass with the close up pic of Jack we've seen in the posters. OVerall, it was very well organized and most people were dressed in some kind of pirate attire which made for such a festive atmosphere.

JDR people-----it was great meeting up with BootstrapBeck, who should now be called HollywoodBeck as just about every news interviewer talked with her!!! Also, met up with Burlycue and Sparrowette. I'm sorry if I'm leaving others out as the ladies directly in front of me were fun to talk with, too. Thanks BBeck for saving spots in line----many of us had to deal with LA traffic!

Overall, it was great fun, glad I did it and can't wait until AWE------it really looks like it will top DMC which I didn't think possible.

That was me and my buddies! It was great fun just hanging out in line! Wonderful to see Beck again and meet Donna and Burlycue too! I don't have too much to add to what everyone else already reported. L.A. was a huge event compared to the other cities I guess, as the El Cap holds 1,000 people and it was almost completely full. And most people were dressed piratey in one way or another. It was quite exciting to see Orlando. There were news crews everywhere, before and after the show. And they filmed and interviewed so many people, it was crazy! And yes Karen, Jerry Reyes was there. A group of us even went out to eat with him after the show! I can't tell you how much fun the whole day was, much more better than we imagined!

Great to have you both check in with us Donna and Bucca!!! I'm so very glad that so many JDR people were there last night and got to meet up and have such an AWEsome time. I missed being with you all, but talked with Beck while you were out celebrating and having WAYYY too much fun without me!! lol

WOO HOOOO
The community of people that we have here at :jdr is truly what makes this the special place that it is!! Many thanks for taking the time to check in! :snoopy

Karen -- I wasn't sure where to post this, so feel free to move it as needed.

I flew into L.A. from Orlando and booked into the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel so I could be as close as possible to the El Capitan theater. I checked for lines about midnight and was relieved that there weren't any overnighters sleeping on the pavement in front of the theater.

Being from the East coast, I had no problem getting up early. So I checked for fans at 5 a.m. At 7:30 a.m. I encountered the first two fans, two girls who came without tickets. They were hoping that they could find two people who would bring them in as guests, and they were in luck. I called one of my friends coming into town and by noon, we'd secured both girls entry into the event.

When we had a good crowd of about 20 crew members, I explained that I planned to shout some interactive lines at key moments during the film for some laughs. Everyone was willing to play along, so we all practiced together. One of the girls was so enthusiastic, she pulled out the words to "A Pirate's Life for Me!" and we all sang it together.

Things started to get busy about 2 p.m. By then, there were 60 of us. By the time we gained entry, the theater (which holds about 1,000 methinks) looked packed.

The final hour before we gained entry, we were interviewed over and over by the press -- in detail. They were fascinated that I came all the way from Orlando (one guy said to me, "You need a hobby!" to which I retorted, "This IS my hobby!")

We had a very pleasant security guard who kept those of us in the front of the line informed of things, such as, "They are bringing the monkey and the dog in for a special guest appearance." She also confirmed that Orlando Bloom was indeed showing up.

Some of the television stations that interviewed us included ABC, Hollywood Reporter, Buena Vista Pictures and even a Japanese station. I was interviewed by a program called "My Favorite Movie" where I had to say what my favorite movie was and why -- a no brainer! I replied, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl -- it's the movie that changed my life. It's the movie that MADE me a pirate!"

I'm fairly certain that Disney will include us on a future DVD, as they did for fans at the DMC premiere.

I did, however, get stumped on one question -- when asked to summarize what I thought would happen in POTC3, I couldn't remember the EITC! Instead, after a long pause, I said, the "England Trading Company" *blushes* instead of the East India Trading Company! Any hoo, when those DVDs come out, look for us. I was wearing my POTC cowboy hat with my DMC premiere mouse ears on top of that (sorry I don't have pix yet, I'm still in L.A. and didn't have a digital camera with me.)

Orlando Bloom was our special guest. They gave out some AWEsome prizes, three replicas of Jack's pistol, a leather jacket, several action figures, a new ladies tote bag in pink with a picture of CJS, and then the big prize was getting your name inscribed in the AWE DVD as an Easter egg, along with 19 other fans also attending these events across the country.

Our swag bag included a picture of the "Jolly Roger" a skeleton character from the new online game, a beta CD of the new game, and a CJS bandana.

Orlando seemed quite grateful and overwhelmed by his welcome. He was on stage for what seemed like all of 90 seconds. His one quip was about our costumes. He said, "I'm seeing several Jack Sparrows out there, I hope there are some Will Turners, too!"

And it was fabulous seeing COTBP on the big screen in the El Capitan. It looked fantastic. And what an incredible audience! My two young friends sat in the first row on the floor, and I was with a group in the front row of the balcony. We stood up and I shouted, "Everyone salute the captain!" when CJS first appeared. When Barbosa asked Elizabeth where she got the medallion, we shouted, "Liar!!!" which got several laughs. Everyone remembered to shout "Wake up Jack!" when he was laying in a drunken stupor on the beach.

The two most successful lines were:

When Will jumps on deck of the Pearl after the Interceptor is scuttled and he's negotiating with Barbosa for Elizabeth's freedom, I shouted out the, "And I want $20 million for a sequel!" The audience went nuts. And I got in the the Gilette/Norrington exchange?" I shouted, "Let's go to Disneyland!"

I did one other successful improve, when Jack pulls out his gun and wants to shoot Elizabeth after she sets the rum on fire on the beach, everyone started shouting, "Shoot her! Shoot her!" When they quieted down, I shouted, "You're gonna regret that! Wait 'till you see what she's gonna do to you!" That got a great laugh too.

So, I would say that this was, by far, the biggest and most successful interactive fan event I've attended. Great fun was had by all!

It was great seeing and meeting so many of you in L.A. Can't wait to see y'all again in May!!!!!!!!!

I promise to post some pictures when I get back to Orlando later this week!

Sparrowette - March 19, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
Wow! What a day! We got there at 10:30 AM and were third and fourth in line. We met up with many of our JDR friends and had a good time.

I had a lovely and fun time with the Captain Jack sparrow look a like from Disneyland. He is so used to seeing me that he knows me. He really makes you feel great. He does a great job.

We received a nice free gift. A trial of the New POC video game for the Computer, a bandana like Jack's and an art work of the skeletons from the game. I was lucky to get # 209 and Fred got # 501 out of 10,000. Very nice.

The MC was of course dressed like Jack Sparrow! They gave away so many nice prizes we had no luck alas. a Leather jacket with the curses aztec coin on the back,a Pink Jack bag, a talking Jack doll, an LE 300 replica of Jack's pistol, some Jewelry from Disnet Couiture plus many other goodies.

Now for one of the best parts!
We had 3 surprise guests the dog, the monkey and the best ORLANDO BLOOM!!!! The place went wild! He is so handsome and sweet. He has shaved off his moustach and look so young.

Seeing the film back up on the big screen was great!

The trailer is so great! We were able to see it twice! I am sure it was shown twice at all of the events. We are in for a wild ride! The film is going to be huge!
I loved it! Great to see the return of Captain Jack Sparrow!
Can't wait to hear about the other events!

Bootstrap it sounds like you had an AWEsome time. We got the swag which also included a baseball cap but as for the other things, we didn't have any of that. The theatre was only about half full and they actually ran out of prizes. They didn't videotape our group which is sad because there were some great costumes out there. The little ones were adorable that came dressed up. Ours was a more quiet event. But Mary Kay and I still had a great time seeing the movie and trailer. Can't wait until May.

I've posted elsewhere about the event,(I think in the thread where it talks about Orlando being there) but yes, yelling out the lines during the film was very funny! Also, one of the items raffled off was an electric guitar with POTC artwork decorating it---------didn't go home with me though!

Hey Bootstrap. I think I was just down the aisle from you. I heard you shouting out at the screen. I turned to my friend and said "hey, it's Rocky Horror Pirates."

Just checking in to report on the "swag" that was rafffled off in LA. This included a beautiful black leather POTC jacket, an electric guitar with POTC artwork, a replica of Jack's pistol, several goodie bags with T-shirt, playing cards, etc., a POTC tote bag, a complete set of AWE action figures, the large size animated Capt. Jack figure and also someone's name that will be added as an Easter egg to the AWE DVD when it's released. Apparently 20 names have been chosen, I'm assumng from the other events around the country. Wish I could have come home with something, but I did come home with the memory of meeting some beautiful JDR people and the great experience of it all. :D

Yes Yvonne, would love to have talked with you more, maybe if you go to the midnight show at EL Cap?

Julie-nice to meet you, too! Hope we can meet up again.

Becky-great fun with you, too! Thanks for the updates on the line situation, etc.

Burleycue - March 20, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
Oh my...SO many wonderful things to share about the event last night. First and most importantly: It was such a pleasure to meet all of you...Becky, Yvonne (and Fred!), Donna, Anne, Ginger...forgive me, I've forgotten some of your names. What a complete and total blast it was to meet all of you. I can't wait to spend more quality Johnny-time with you all in the future! woohoo

Everyone that has shared their experiences have summed things up nicely. I'm sure that all of our JDR members, no matter what city, had a wonderful time! Nothing can compare to seeing a movie (and trailer) with people that truly enjoy it...whether it be for Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, the music, the genre...we were all there because we are the "ultimate" fans. Yes, the trailer was/is amazing, but being able to see it and share it with so many other true fans was what made the night extra-special for me.

Karen - March 20, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
Thanks Julie, you worded it so nicely! There is nothing like being with people who share your interests, whatever they are. LOL

Can May come soon enough? :snoopy

BootstrapBeck - March 20, 2007 04:47 AM (GMT)
Thank you everyone for your kind words!

I have a terrible connection in this hotel, or I'd post more.

I enjoyed meeting all of you and am looking forward to doing it again in May!

:thanks woohoo
