Just got back from the Cincinnati event. It was great. there were a lot of pirates big and small there. This new movie is going to be an awesome event. We got a special event pass (with Jack on it) and a couple of other things. Had a lot of fun!!! Can't wait to hear how the others went.

Hi Nicci... I'm home!!!
Nicci and I went together to the Cincy event!! We were the first ones there and other pirates started showing up. All pirates received a pirates baseball cap.. the ultimate event pass badge.. with Capt Jacks pic on it.. sigh .. a bandana that matches Jacks.. and a Pirates OnLine packet with the game cd and a limited pic of "Jolly Roger" a skeleton who I guess who will be in the game.. I'm not up on that.
Event didnt quite start on time.. but had a lot of fun waiting with the other pirates. Once inside.. the only thing special they did was have a vote for the best dressed pirate.. you had to go down to the front and they had a clap vote. I or Nicci didnt go down.. we werent brave enough.. lol.. but in the end .. we were glad we didnt.. they ran out of stuff. Every pirate was going to get something .. they passed out posters.. yes Capt Jack poster of him coming out of the fog.. sigh .. and some POTC items and toys. Felt a little bad for the little kids.. some of them were really cute... especially this one little boy who kept motioning with his arms to clap louder.. lol. They said they didnt expect that many to dress up..
Now to the good stuff. Getting to see Capt Jack on that big screen again.. and to make THAT entrance was awesome for me... and I'm sure for those that hadnt seen it at the theaters just loved it. Everybody clapped and cheered when it was over.
Then the trailer .. there was a video of Geoffrey Rush, Jerry Bruckheimer and Orlando .. sorry no Johnny.. telling us how we are the ultimate fans and then to the trailer.
IT WAS AMAZING!! This movie is going to be great... alot of stuff happening. I dont want to say anything cause I dont want to give anything away for any others waiting.
Then when it was done being shown.... I think it was Jerry or Geoffrey came back on in the video again ..cant remember now which one .. saying.. do you want to see it again.. lol .. I think you all know what are answer was.
We had a really good time.. great way to spend the day.

Glad that you got home okay MK. I was one of those that had never seen COTBP on the big screen so this day was extra special for me. Jack, oops I mean the movie, looked so good on that big screen. BTW, it was Geoffrey that came on and asked if we wanted to see it again. It was a wonderful way to spend the day.

woohoo Hi, I am home from my Disney Ultimate Pirate Fan Event. I must say that we had an AWEsome time. My son and I were also the first in line. We did not have to wait too long to get into the theater as it was going to take a long time to get everyone screened into the theater. By 3:30 we were seated. They were showing silly things on the screen. Like Pirate Mega Blocks....it was hysterical. Then the fun started and right on time. We did not get the ball caps, we got the bandana the "package" with the game disk that my son is wanting to load right now, and the Jolly Roger picture, and of course our "Jack" pass. We had to wear ours to get into the theater. No Admit without it. They gave away "vinyl" soundtracks to the 3 best pirate song singers. We had a right ole' good time to the songs. Then there was the costume contest. Needless to say there were many different types there. Some were in Austin for SXSW and there was one guy there from Sweeden and he was wearing a kilt. He was awesome. He had the whole audience behind him. And we were all complaining that we all had to "perform" after him. lol My son and I went as a team and we were the last group to go before the crowd. And the crowd seemed to like our Jack Sparrows, they said we were the best Jack's, but it is hard to compete in an audience clap off when you are against WENCHES!!!!!!!!!! My son and I did come in 4th. They guy that did win was the guy from Sweeden and he said that he could not accept the prize and get it through customs, so Harry is supposed to auction it off on ebay and the proceeds go to a veterans cause.
Then they started the movie. I so love the entrance of Jack on the big screen and everyone clapped when he appeared.
When the movie ended and the trailer was supposed to play. And there appears Geoffry Rush, there was no audio........the projector had some issues....the clip kept playing with no audio.......then the trailer started and it was backwards....and no audio. After a great span of time pasted with a few behind the scenes from the previous movies and other pirate related clips including sponge bob. They got the trailer to play. It was awesome..... The sound was amazing. I was so into the trailer. And then it played again.
Then they showed a clip of behind the scenes stuff from AWE!!!!!!!!!!! I do not know how long the clip was.....but it was about 5 minutes.
They showed the clip of Johnny saying "sure strap me to a cannon and shoot me out to sea" and then they showed the part of the movie relevent to this in AWE.
They treated us very well. There was a Disney rep there and they were video taping US the whole time. One can only wonder if any of this will be used on a special bit on the AWE DVD whenever it comes out.
I am still excited to see the trailer again tomorrow.......
edit to add:::: they showed the clip of Jack getting slapped by the two wenches on the dock and what Jack said to deserve those slaps...... :shistle

Thanks so much to y'all for reporting in about your fantastic time at the fan event!! WOO WHOOO!!! SOunds like you all had a great time!
Now I guess we are waiting for the west coasters to check in. LOL
Many thanks Mary Kay, Nicci and Holly for being such great JDR on the spot reporters!!
deppfan4ever - March 19, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
We didn't get to see any of the behind the scenes things. Thanks heavens they didn't videotape us. Seeing those little ones again would have been a treat. There was a little black gal there who I know couldn't have been born when COTBP came out but she was dressed up. To me she looked like a little Tia Dalma. The kids were all adorable!!!

I recall seeing that.. there was so much.. I cant remember everything... but I dont think there were any behind the scenes bits either.
Holly.. I'm glad they got those audio kinks worked out for you. Cant say I saw any sort of Disney rep doing any sort of taping of our crowd of pirates.. There were a few official looking people.. one guy in particular .. but I dont know.. I think there were some still photos taken of the pirate group. .. Nicci.. you have to help me out here. Congrats to you and your son too Holly!!!! Did you win something in particular??
There was no best pirate song singer game .. although Nicci and I did start YoHoo'ing a few times on our own .. lol .. and have to admit to a bit of moaning at particular parts of the movie and trailer...
because of you know whoThat one little girl that we nicknamed Tia was adorable.
It was fun.. and I cant wait to see the trailer again tomorrow too !!!!!

I am sorry that you did not get the behind the scenes stuff :upinsmoke . I am wondering if it was what was shown at ComicCon that we saw???????
We did not get the ball caps :banghead
They were recording us the whole time........even during the movie. Read the back side of your "Jack pass". It says, "Grants permission to Disney, its affiliates and agents, to utilize the pass holder's image or likeness in any live or recorded video display or other transmission or reproduction, in whole or in part, of the movie, or of any activity related to this event.
The security people announced to us several times that they were going to be recording the WHOLE event. And they sure did.
I think that all my belts that I had on drove the security people nuts trying to do their scans on me, they finally gave up as they could not get a clean reading on me :shistle

Nope, just 1st - 3rd. If I can I am going to try and bid on the ebay Jack that they had as the first place prize.

We never had any sort of announcement about recording the event. And it was a local radio station that ended up doing the pirate judging competition.
They didnt wand us.. although it was sitting right there on the table where we entered the theater at. They kept coming back to the waiting lines saying about recording devices and cellphones.. and they did collect cellphones.. even if they did not take pics or record video they got taken. We left ours in the car beforehand. They did a very quick check of our purses before entering the theater.. but again.. we werent wanded.

Theresa - March 19, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
Just got in from the Kansas City event. I was the first one there, the others didn't start showing up until about a half hour later. While we were waiting inline a boy came over and said are you putting on a play? We were given the lanyards with Captain Jack on them, then we also received a replica Captain Jack bandana and the pirates online packet mentioned earlier. There was a group that normally performs at the KC renaissance festival dressed as pirates and they sang pirate songs and encouraged everyone to join in.
When we finally got into the theatre the red skull and crossbones AWE poster was on the screen, followed by many of the AWE pictures that recently surfaced online and an advertisement for the new Pirates game and Pirate Megablocks. Then someone from a local radio station came in and told everyone to look under there chairs to see if there was a sticker. Considering there were no more than 50 people there (on the Disney website it said the KC event had 100 prizes but I guess not that many people entered as the theatre wasn't even half full  ) we had to check all the empty seats. In total there were three stickers and the people who found them received a t-shirt that had said radio station's logo on it. Then they did a little bit of Pirates trivia for the small neca or zizzle figures (not sure which ones). The first question was "Who did Johnny Depp model Jack Sparrow after?" My hand went up before they had even finished the question but they called on someone else. In total I think there were four questions. Next it was time for the costume contest. It was voted on by a show of applause. About eight people went down including myself. First place (a 18 inch talking Jack figure) went to a guy dressed like Barbossa and I must say I was very impressed with his costume. Probably the best Barbossa costume I'd ever seen and he even had the facial hair. I'm not sure what the second and third place prizes were but they went to a wench and a woman dressed like Jack.
Finally we heard the introduction mentioned above from Orlando, Geoffrey and Jerry. Then the movie started and I heard someone in the front yell
''It's a rerun!" and everyone burst into laughter. I was so excited as it was my first time seeing COTBP on the big screen. It was wonderful!!! Then to top that the moment we had all been waiting for, the trailer! I must say I was completely AWEstruck!!! Then they played it a second time! I could have just sat there and watched the trailer all night it was so good. Well, that in a nutshell was my experience and I enjoyed every minute of it.
On a different note... After I left the theatre, I had to go to the casino to pick something up. While I was there they said over the intercom "Johnny D. your table is now ready." :D Then, about 10 minutes later as I was on my way out when they announced again "Johnny D. your table is now ready." Sorry, had to share that, I thought it was kinda funny having just come from the fan event and then hearing that.
Karen - March 19, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
Theresa! Thanks so much for reporting in!! It sounds like you had an AWEsome time there too!! There's just nothing like seeing Capt Jack sailing in on the mast on the BIG SCREEN!!
Can't wait to see the trailer tomorrow!!
FANtasticJD - March 19, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
I'm back from the NY screening. To call it an event would be to give it too much credit. It was poorly organized; started 1 1/2 hours late; no special guests - just a local dj - who was pretty good. The concession stand didn't even open until just before they let us into the theater (after a very long wait). Half the stuff they handed out as prizes was radio station junk. We didn't get any baseball caps, just the bandana, laminated ticket on the lanyard, and the online game beta deal with the print. The child who won the costume event was adorable, though. They announced that the winner of the contest would be named on the DVD of AWE which is a very cool thing to do. The top costume prizes were terrific. They had a few trivia questions and a few door prizes, mostly small figures or tickets to the wax museum. There was a photographer who took a couple minutes of video of the waiting line in the theater but spent a bit more time taking pics of the (relatively few) folks who came in full costume. They did stills of the various winners. There was only one rather stern man who seemed like some kind of official but there was nothing that felt liked Disney cared about it at all. There were a couple DMC posters upstairs on the way into the theater and one AWE one clumsily tacked up just outside the theater (meaning the auditorium, not the building). No hoopla outside which could have promoted the movie/trailer. No poster in the the main part of the theater. This was a multi-level complex and the Pirates deal was on the top floor. By the time we finally got into the theater, the mood was not very festive. The dj did a pretty good job in lightening the mood, though and getting some anticipation going. The theater wasn't full but had a respectable crowd. They had some sound problems where the right speaker cut out quite a bit but not for too long at a time.
That said, the show itself was wonderful and I'm so glad to have had the chance to go. As has been said, they had Geoffrey, Orlando and Jerry on film do the intros before COTBP, before the trailer and between the two screenings of the trailer. I've seen COTBP a dozen times or more on DVD but never had seen it on the big screen. WOW!!! It's an amazing difference. I absolutely loved it and it was unique to not have the audience rush out as soon as the end credits started. The trailer for AWE was as described from Showest although each report from there that I read had a couple errors. There are some great one-liners that are absolutely priceless. I can't wait for everyone to see/hear it so we can share reactions.
All in all, it was a missed opportunity for Disney in the US's biggest market but great great fun to see both the first movie and the fabulous trailer. I'm way more excited about AWE now than I was before.

So sorry to hear that the NY people were disappointed in the lack of planning and organization. But glad to hear that you were able to see P1 on the BIG SCREEN! And you got to see the trailer!!! WOO HOO

I just got back from the "Ultimate Fan Event" at the El Capitan today. There were TONS of folks dressed up like Jack, male and female. We got into the theater and took the first row in the balconey. First the host of the event teased us with two famous actors from the movie. Then they brought out Jack the Undead Monkey and the famous Dog with the keys. Next there was a give-away with all sorts really cool stuff that of course I didn't win.
And then...yes then he got us all on our feet and brought out Orlando Bloom! I hear there are pics out there already on Wireimage which is so cool since we couldn't bring anything into the theater. He looked delicious in the same sad grey jeans he wears all the time. He was poised and relaxed even as the young girls kept screaming their heads off. He wasn't on the stage very long, just long enough to say thanks on behalf of all the people responsible for making the films. He commented how cool it was that so many people were dressed up and that there were tons of Jacks but no Will Turners. He was also in the introductory video along with Geoffery Rush and Jerry Bruckheimer. After the movie they showed the trailer TWICE. They know fans all too well. And the trailer....all I have to say is BRING IT ON, YO HO! They really have pulled out all the stops for number three. And Orlando and the Red Shirt of Doom will be the death of me.
*edited to add* they gave us a gift bag with a headscarf like Jack's, a limited edition Litho of some of the cursed skeleton pirates and a beta test pass fot the POTC online game.

Here's a quick re-cap from the Los Angeles event. The line went around the building of the El Capitan Theater. We all recieved the lanyard and the pass, the bandana, and the Pirates Online picture and game. They also had a raffle with tickets, but I didn't win anything :( Then we had three special guests. Poochie the dog, Jack the Monkey, and Orlando Bloom. He spoke for a few seconds, but I couldn't hear much because of all the *squeeing* Then we watched COTBP. After the credits they showed the trailer twice! It was an AWEsome event! woohoo
herestoyou - March 19, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
I echo what momosanla said about the EL Cap-------I posted my comments in the thread about Orlando being at the LA event so I won't repeat it here. I was in the second row balcony behind BSBeck and Burleycue, so I probably saw you there! As oppposed to NY, ours was well organized, yes, it did start late though. However, it wasn't bad as Disney was very accomodating about letting us leave the line for bathroom breaks, etc. Also, they only ushered in sections of the line at one time so there wasn't a mad rush to get in which was nice. Since we were in the front of the line we pretty much had our choice of seats. I would say the theater was pretty well full, maybe a few empty seats.
Yes, you will enjoy the trailer and it was great we got to see it twice as I missed some things the first time through. Again, I didn't think it possible, but P3 looks to be even bigger and better than P1 & P2.
Security was tight and they were very strict about the cell phones. One guy across the aisle from me pulled out a cell phone(dont' know how it got it in) during COTBP. and a security guy was on him in about 10 seconds. They escorted him out of the movie, but he returned a short time later so they didn't make him leave.

I saw the bit with the cannon during the trailer where Jack made the comment about being crazy but that is all I remember. I have to admit to some moaning and melting at the sight of you know who. They didn't even wand us there. All they did was take cellphones and check the women's purses. As for the singing did a little of that on the way into the theatre to sit down and we did a couple of "Yo-ho's" but that was it. Chickened out on the costume contest.
