http://www.rexmundi.net Lady Isabelle Plantard de St. Clair
The Duke of Lorraine’s promiscuous, 20 year-old daughter. Although she is spoiled and capricious, deep down Isabelle is lonely and vulnerable. Her mother, the duke’s wife, died when she was young. Her father all but ignores her, and his love is probably the only thing she really needs.
Do you believe that her father's love is "probably the only thing she really needs" as this says? The description of the Duke's daughter is surprisingly simple. Could there be more to her than meets the eye?

Well I think the night of the party when she is talking to Julien says alot. She states that every man in the room wanted her so as to get to her father. I think she wants to be with someone who wants just her, not because she's the Duke's daughter. So I don't feel that her father's love is what she truly wants. She realizes her father is what he is and she cannot change that but she does need love, just not necessarily his. I sort of feel sorry for her.

If she was only there to be lonely, she wouldn't be in the story. I feel there may be some foreshadowing going on, and that a kidnapping may take place soon. :shistle

I feel sorry for her too. Because she is desperate to gain her father's attention any way possible, do we think that makes her vulnerable? Meaning a weakness that someone could possibly use to gain entree to her father and his world?
What about the use of magic? Wonder what could be used to "tilt the scales" so to speak in attracting her or possibly manipulating her??
Just some random thoughts...

I wonder what magic powers she may have. If she wants her fathers attention what better way of getting it than by getting hold of something he wants badly. Which could be dangerous for her. I thought she was a tad of a nonentity, but rather in the way of a time bomb.

I would like to believe she is alot stronger than we think even though she is only twenty so I'll say no she cannot be manipulated. However 'magic' or the 'magician' himself would attract her if it were to her advantage, ie. getting her father's attention, power beyond her imagination or eternal life (off on a tangent here).

Interesting comments from everyone. I too think her behavior is to get her father's attention, as he obviously has other matters on his mind. I'm curious about her relationship to her now deceased mother and the Duke's relationship to his deceased wife. I like the possibility of magic in her future-----will she end up an ally of Julien to get back at her dad?

Intersting thoughts on a "minor" character....kidnapping??

I agree with the previous posts about Isabelle and I feel she will play a major part when the artifact is found-in book three she followed Gen and Julien into the Lorraine family chapel and watched in fear as Julien fought the priest/knight looking character-I wonder where this will lead. Also after the fight with her father she was asleep or passed out and there was a plate with a syringe and some type of fruit-some type of magic or drugs-she had a tourniquet on her arm what is that about? Mr. Nelson again has made use of subtle clues to develop the character of Isabelle but where this will lead I have no idea. I still have not decided to what degree Lorraine cares for Isabelle.

I have to agree that she is going to become a major player in this story. I don't know for sure, but I am wondering if it was actually her who used magic to open the door to the church in book 3, and not just luck that it opened when Julien put his hand on it.
I think she will probably become an ally to Julien, but I don't see her getting on to well with Gen. I think the two women will become rivals for juliens affections.
