NRAMA: Do you have any dream casting for the other members of the cast?
AN: Honestly? Not really, no. Johnny Depp really does seem perfect as Julien. I based the female leads off silent-era and silver screen-era stars; Genevieve is Louise Brooks, for instance, and Lorraine's daughter is Barbara Stanwyck. I'm sure whoever gets the parts will be great!
So we know about Louise Brooks as a base for Genevieve:

And here's Barbara Stanwyck who was the base for Lorraine's daughter:

We have Johnny as Julien, who would you cast in any or all of the other roles if you could have your own dream cast?

Vincent Price would have been perfect as the Duke, but I'd settle for Christopher Lee! That is my first reaction. Need to go away and think!

Hmmm...No one in particular jumped out at me immediately. So how about Jeremy Irons as the Archbishop, Vanessa Paradis as Gen and Liam Neeson as the Duke.
jeppody - March 2, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
It may be the bald head, but I can only see Patrick Stewart as the Duke of Lorraine. I think he would play the part brilliantly. :D
As for Gen, I see Audrey Tautou fitting in well, and being French is an automatic advantage.

O WOW!!! That is a brilliant choice for the Duke!

Thanx for those old pix Karen. I knew who Barbara Stanwick was but I don't know who Louise Brooks is even with a pix. Bugger
I think Patrick Stewart is a good idea. I saw Cats Meow and Kirsten Dunst was in it, I think she'd do Gen really good.

I don't know who Louise Brooks is either. LOL But she's pretty!
Hmm Kirsten Dunst is an interesting thought!

Interesting choices from everyone----I might also consider Ben Kinsglsey for the Duke, he has such a wide range. I have to think about the female leads-------

Ben Kinglsey would work!
Alan Rickman sure gets to play baddies a lot of the time. LOL
What about Jessica Biel for Lorraine's daughter?
MacktheKnife - March 3, 2007 07:31 AM (GMT)
I think it interesting to think of Ben Kingsley and Patrick Stewart for the same role and how they would use their skill to show the power and the dark side of the Duke. Both of them have the most amazing stage and screen presence. I wonder if BK would be good as the Rabbi, I can't think of anyone else who could play the role.

My cast inludes: Johnny to play both Julien and the Duke. The Rabbi-Ben K. Father Marin-Christopher Lee-please add a little of a backstory to give more knowledge into the relationahip between the priest and Julien. Gen-Maggie Gyllenhaal. Duke's daughter- BS (bald-headed troubled youing woman with a wig please) Director Robert Rodriquez.

Oh her hair will be grown out by then. LOL
Interesting thought about RR for the director! I was thinking about the Hughes brothers as they did such a great job with From Hell. lol But then, I am predisposed to like them..... :shistle
nurseanne8 - March 3, 2007 03:41 PM (GMT)
If the screenplay is "serious" then I would go with the Hughes brothers but if the screenplay is more humor and tongue-in-cheek I would go with RR. :shistle

Rodriguez would be interesting for the director. I can also see Rickman in a role, too. I was thinking about Rachel Weisz as a possible Gen.,---I've enjoyed her work and would love to see her work with Johnny. I also think Emma Thompson could be a wonderful Gen. As for Lorraine's daughter, I just don't know------are there any really talented "young" actresses out there? Keira Knightley comes to mind, but she's been in the Pirates series so long, I'd like to see Johnny with someone new.

I have been trying to place Gen's face with an actress. She reminded me of someone, but I couldn't quite figure out who and then it came to me...what about Charlotte Gainsbourg? She seems to fit to me and she's part French.

I think I could also see Ben Kingsley or maybe Albert Finney as the Duke. (Didn't he do a bare headed character in Batman or Dick Tracy?).
Just a thought.

Holly I don't really know this actress-------do you know of any films she's been in? She does have the look of Gen. though-------

Here's what I found at Wikepedia about Charlotte:
Charlotte Gainsbourg (born July 21, 1971) is a French actress and singer.
She was born in London, United Kingdom and raised in Paris, France. Her father is
Serge Gainsbourg,(Vanessa Paradis was a favorite of his and she to him. She sings many Gainsbourg songs on her CDs and in concert) and her mother is Jane Birkin. She made her motion picture début playing Catherine Deneuve's daughter in the 1984 film Paroles et musique.
In 1986, she won a César Award for "Most Promising Actress" for L'effrontée, and in 2000 she won "Best Supporting Actress" for the film La Bûche.
In 1994, she made her stage debut in David Mamet's Oleanna at the Théâtre de la Gaîté-Montparnasse.
Gainsbourg has sung the title song in three of her films and has released two albums. In 2004, she sang a duet with French pop star Étienne Daho on his single "If".
She is married to the French actor and director Yvan Attal, and they have two children, Ben and Alice.
Here are two pictures of Charlotte and some handsome guy we all know from "Happily Ever After" also known as "Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants".

OK, that's who she is------yes, I've seen the clip from the film with Johnny. Now it all makes sense, yes, she could be a possibility also.
herestoyou - March 7, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
Just thought of someone else for Gen-----maybe Juliette Binoche? She's played some strong women characters, I also like her chemistry with Johnny-----------Still no ideas for Isabelle though-----maybe Jessica Biel as was mentioned before.......

I like Juliette Binoche, I think she'd bring an earthiness to the role.
