Title: Jeff's take on the Oscars

Karen - February 25, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Yes, Jeff made the move with us! Some of you have asked about him since we've not had news from him since we've moved to the new board. He's alive and well and just super busy. But I found this email from him in my mailbox this morning in time for the Oscars tonight.

For JDR newbies Jeff is one of JDR's industry insiders and occasionally pops up to help us out or to offer his opinion on the state of the industry. Here are his predictions for the Oscars tonight.

Please remember that these are his opinions alone. LOL As mine differ a bit. lol It's always interesting to hear his take on things.

So here are Jeff's predictions:

Best Supporting Actor- Eddie Murphy

Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Hudson

Best Actor - Forest Whitaker

Best Actress - Helen Mirren

Best Picture- Babel

Best Director - Martin Scorsese

I also think that POTC 2 will take 2 of the awards at the least.

The majority of the award winners this time around seem very predicable. Regardless of how many awards show have passed, there is always the possibility of an upset.

People are saying that Peter O'Toole could win the lead actor category based on his never winning and due to the number of older academy members. I hope not as Forest's performance shines so much more than Peter's in my opinion.
There is also talk of Alan Arkin winning supporting actor over Eddie Murphy for the same reasons. I hope not as well.

It's always nice hearing people's perspectives, I agree with most of his predictions, too. Would love DMC to get some recognition. However, I've also heard "buzz" about Kate Winslet and the little Breslin girl on the radio this morning. Apparently they've been picking up steam the last few weeks.

I am glad Jeff followed us to the new home! I agree with him except for the best picture-and I hope Murphy does win-his performance in Dreamgirls was awesome! Even though Johnny will not be there and he is not nominated-enjoy the show it celebrates movies which brought us to this great community. woohoo

I'd love to hear everyone's take on their idea of who's going to get the Oscar.

Here's mine:

Best Picture - Babel

Best Director - Scorsese

Best Actress - Helen Mirren (woo hooo)
Best Actor - Forest Whittaker

Best Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchette (oops)
Best Supporting Actor - Alan Arkin ( although I think Bill Nighy SHOULD have been nominated for Notes on a Scandal) edit WOO HOO I got 1! LOL

P2 should take Best Visual Effects and Sound Editing. (1 out of 2 lol)

What say you?

Deppsdarling - February 25, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)

I'll go out on a limb----Karen,my only differences would be:

Best Picture-Little Miss Sunshine(just because it's overall a feel good movie compared to the others)

Best Actress:Kate Winslet-she's overdue and somewhat more of a meaty role than Mirren's. However, I love both of them so if either one wins, I'll be happy.

Best Supporting Actress:Jennifer Hudson

Would love to see Alan Arkin get BSActor, too.(Agree with you about Nighy)

Hope you're right about DMC winning 2 awards, I think the Visual Effects is a lock------if it doesn't get that one, I won't watch Oscars anymore unless Johnny is nominated.

It will be interesting tonight! I watch =every year, with or without Johnny. I just love the movies!! :snoopy I am such a movie nerd! snicker

nurseanne8 - February 25, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
Here are mine: Movie: Letters From Iwo Jima-excellent but I am a WWII buff but the humanity of the movie is awesome-and it made me think about how war impacts both sides esp. with the ME war.
Director: Scorsese it is time and I loved The Departed-kept me engaged the whole time. Actress: Mirren-wonderful job. Actor: DiCaprio-I have seen both of his movies this year and he is awesome-I have heard wonderful things about Whittaker but have not seen the movie. Supporting actress: Blanchette of course for Notes. Supporting-Murphy for Dreamgirls. DMC should sweep all its nominations I hope. B)

I think one of the sound noms may go to Dreamgirls....sigh
